How do you know the pace made no difference for Korolev? Isn't he more of a kicker than a distance guy? If so, this race played more to his strength than his weakness.

Erica Palmer had several compression problems with fascia (blanking on the correct name for the problem) in the lower legs and finally had to punt after winning as a sophomore. DiSanza is a 1500m runner. A lot of milers did not fair well in the finishing kilometers (especially on the mens side where Patrick Tiernan lost 15 places, Tanguy Pepiot lost 23, Rosa 22 (not fully a miler, though). However, some distance guys also lost big on the mens side, like Erassa.

When did Tiernan and Pepiot become milers? Last time i checked Tiernan was a 13:31 5k runner. And Pepiot is a outdoor steeple scorer. Not really milers bud. Some milers did pretty well for themselves; Saarel, Disanza, Atchoo, Rotich, Awad.

Did anybody else see Futsum tell that finish line volunteer to f*ck-off? Maaan he looked pissed after Jenkins out-kicked him.

If Hurysz wins the race they score 44; you had him better than 10th. Since he was their 6th man, even moving up six places does not change the score at all.

Colorado was winning by 6 points at 8k. So they really won it as you said the final 2k.

According to Lutz's twitter, he fell following the 5k mark. Apparently, a girl taking a "selfie" on the course started a chain of reactions that caused him to trip. This trend of fans doing this is ridiculous, and it may have actually interfered with the race today.

He did blow it but its a 5 man deal. Would have expected him to be in the top 30. A bad day that got worse.

Not quite the same as the Nelson, Lockhart, and Spiker all bombing for Wisconsin in 2004 with "on paper" a team that was supposed to be a lock to win.

This was actually a very good example of a race where any number of runners could have gone hard, that is, any # of runners were capable of going a lot faster than the field was going and they were bunched up, in the middle of the race, from 3k (or even from the beginning) to 8k, and changed things up quite a bit. As it was, going hard only the last 2k essentially rolled the dice for the Buffalos and probably made things quite a bit closer. For the field as a whole, it probably did not ultimately change too much. And obviously Joe Rosa on paper was worth top five or ten, given his superior xc and track credentials to his brother prior to last year and given that he was able to run with Korolev earlier in the year, and with his brother in the top ten as well this year, Stanford might have won this. But that's why they race it.

I would say Atchoo was the only true miler of the group.

If Jim Rosa wasn't hurt, Stanford would have been very close to beating Colorado's best team ever.

They would not win even if he were to have finished first. However, that is not the only factor; the kept one valuable runner on redshirt, which they probably would not have done if both Rosas were running well.

Am amazed no one has mentioned anything about the New Mexico women's team...they come in ranked 9th overall and were in 19th place at 2k - ending up 3rd. Look at what they did from 2k to 4k:

Charlotte Arter moved up 12 places

Alice Wright moved up 84 places

Calli Thackery moved up 70 places

Tamara Armoush moved up 64 places

HeleeneTambet moved up 69 places

Amber Zimmerman moved up 42 places
