NOW do you not think a sub-2:00:00 marathon will happen?

I think it's pretty well established at this point that Humans are far better at the longer distances, we ain't speed creatures-- with that said I could see the marathon WR in the future being much "better" than the 10k/5k WRs. Oversimplifying for sure, but considering the rate of technological improvement, soon there will be a shoe made of material twice as good as BOOST and BAM! Sub 2 baby! Or, there will be some half horse half man that will come out of some ladies vagina and rape all the records. Sub 2 baby!

In the future there won't just be PEDs, there'll be performance enhancing bodyparts. They won't be like Pistorius' legs, they'll be hidden under the skin. No one will know who have these enchancements, not even from x-rays. Sub 2? Sub 1.

Totally getting it now. So why can't they run the marathon at 7 m/s? Your points make sense ... just use ExPhys and " eccentric muscle contractions more and more, which saves energy and makes a faster race more economical" and today's athletes should be able to run 1:55.

I just think it did not occur to them yet.

All of these years the world didn't know anything about this stuff and they have consequently "only" been able to run 7:20/12:37/26:17/2:02:57 ... now with this knowledge it will all be so easy!!

Just focus on "what it is in every runner that makes you float along easily at a rapid pace, when you are running well" and it will come!!

If you weren't trying so desperately hard to be a smart a$$, then you might get it?

It's not going to happen for a very, very long time...longer than 15 years. But you people can keep on believing it. I'm not that old, I'll be around a lot longer than 15 years. The question is, will LetsRun?
