Triathlete punches woman en route to win!!!

She has every right in the world to back up into him, because she is a great humanitarian who had helped a blind competitor in swim. What did this guy do to help other people? Apparently nothing.

And no, screaming to let her know she was in his way made absolutely no difference. She had no obligation to pay any attention to the traffic, because she is a kind, friendly and wonderful person. Where were his family and friends cheering for him? No where in sight. That proves she is a better person than him. Case closed.

My neighborhood is full of people adorned in Spandex and riding multi-thousand dollar bikes. Most are training for tris. They are rude and humorless and think they own the road. I've never liked cyclists, but have not been able to put a finger on why. They, and their tri brethren, seem like self-important d*ckheads. Of course, our races are now crowded with fat people who walk and text. I was recently running quarters at a school track and a fat woman was walking on the inside lane with walking poles. Sharing the planet with other people can be challenging!

All of the players in this story are compromised for being a bit self-absorbed.

I'm inclined to go with this guy as 70-80% at fault. An actual video would be immensely more helpful and could up that percentage.

Not posting it for legal reasons? This country is much more crippled by imagined fears of how the legal system works than actual reality.

There is a problem with self-entitlement in these events, though, and rather than charity and motherhood martyring someone from being beyond reproach for paying attention to their gd surroundings, those traits are seemingly commonplace among the people who seemingly don't understand that an event is going on around them that's not necessarily all about them. These extra details in the Blog deflect any analysis from paying attention.

Still, even while dodging hobby-joggers and attention whores, I can't imagine shoving one hard enough at the end of a race to get them audibly upset and not discussing it afterward. Yet I also can't imagine not getting up in this guy's face if it were my wife.

You see a car driving down the road. another car backs their car into the road and there is an accident. Who does the apologizing? Sure as shit isn't the guy going down the road. Why is everyone so fast to give the girl zero accountability for her part is causing the insolent? She has blame here no matter how the guy acted. And the pics do not show any form of a punch. Clearly a shove. Would I have done that? No way. But is she a victom in this situation? No way.

Both parties have their heads so far up their asses the cant see past themselves. Both are in the wrong. It's really that simple. The fact there is references to legal action show how pathetic people in this country have gotten.

I wonder...If he'd caught up to her after the race and said "sorry about the run it earlier." Would she have said "I'm sorry too for not paying attention when I was backing up". From the blog...I bet not.

You don't gun the engine and plow into the driver who just pulled out in front of you to teach him a lesson, either. You do your best to avoid the accident, including applying the breaks. If he had slowed down or come to a stop, placed a hand on her shoulder to let her know he was there, or yelled out to her that he was approaching, he would have looked like the wronged party. Instead he resorted to douche-like behavior because he was so damn sure he was right and she was wrong, and he thinks being faster than most people in that event entitles him to an absolutely unfettered path to the finish line. I've run marathons with accompanying halves where I was required to pass hundreds of joggers and walkers. I would love to have had as clear of a path as he seemed to have that day.Shi+ Is going to happen. Learn to deal with it in an appropriate manner. Geeeez.

You are right but at the same time you can't really make up "what ifs" that change the reality of what happened. It pathetically being blogged about attempting to make the girl some glorified 2nd coming of Jesus who has been complexly wronged bit takes zero self accountability. I think I'd kill my husband if he wrote a blog like that if I was in her situation.

Best i can tell, this is her friend's blog, not her husband's. I only see one post from what I assume is the husband, acknowledging he took the photos and commenting on the DQ. Other than that, what have we heard directly from this couple?

Did anyone read Allison's comment on the blog? She is calling him egocentric and narcissistic. Well, she is every bit as egocentric and narcissistic as he is, but she refuses to admit that because people like her are the "majority" of triathlete.

I am very glad I have never participated in a triathlon, and never will. I don't want to navigate through egocentric narcissists like those two characters.

I still think the guy is a douche and she didn't deserve this...and believe she did talk about taking a high road/just dropping the situation...but she's still missing a fundamental lesson about etiquette. Just because "most" triathletes approach a certain way, doesn't mean her way is more valid. "Most" marathoners mug for family and pictures, too, but it would be inappropriate to do so at the 2:15 mark near the end of a course.

(I agree the course design sounds pretty crappy, too).

She *should* have said, "I'm sorry for backing into your lane, I didn't see you and I thought there was plenty of room, I was distracted, and this was my first triathlon." None of the self-righteousness, judgmental comparison about how and why she approaches these.

From the sounds of this guy, it wouldn't have made much a difference, but that would have been the true high road.

Can't really justify punching her. I could see how he would want to though.

She stepped into his way. Shove her or run her over, the result is the same. Regardless, it is her fault for not paying attention. She is on a race course not a photo shoot.

He's trying to finish a race. What is checking on her going to do? Again, her damn fault. She should accept the results of her irresponsibility.

Why in the world would he apologize to her? She owes him an apology. Again, she is standing on a race course where people are running. Take your stupid pictures after the race, dummy. Be aware of your surroundings so you don't get your self run over.

That's about the jist of it.

Based on the photos that I've seen from this thread, there was no punch, no shove, no running in to her, simply a guy running past a woman who had apparently backed into him just as he was running past her. From the photos, it's possible that he didn't even see her. Thank goodness she didn't run screaming onto the freeway, "take my picture, take my picture!"

So far, I've not seen any photos of any punch, shove, or him intentionally aiming to run into her, in fact it's admitted that she backed into him! So in lieu of any punch or shove, she is entirely at fault. If he put his hand out to keep her from slamming into him, that's not a punch, and why would he think she was hurt? In fact she was not hurt, and fortunately she didn't cause him to fall and have a bad accident.

The 1st picture looks like it is a still from the video. Release the video.

I can't make a proper judgement based on a still.

I was running a half once and was about 1/2 mile from the finish and working on a PR. All of the sudden a guy in front of me slowed down and started staggering. I grabbed him under his arms and started to guide him over to the side of the road. As I was setting him down my hand was on the left side of his ribcage and it felt like his heart was ready to explode out the side of his chest. I waited with him for an extra 10 seconds until medical people came, then I hopped up and finished the run.

By the logic some people are using here, it would've been OK to give the guy a forearm because I was kicking towards a PR and he was in my way, or someone else could've done the same to both of us because we were in their way as I was dragging him to the side of the street.

We all run into people in races that annoy us, but it is just common decency, integrity and sportsmanship that you don't do stuff like that. Was she at fault? To a point, yes. But that doesn't justify him steamrolling her to the ground and continuing without acknowledging what happened. Sure, next time she needs to pay more attention, but at the same time you just can't knock people to the ground because you think you are better than they are.

The hardest parts to swallow are the lack of showing the video, and using the word "punch" when there's an open hand in the picture. And then the blog goes on to mention all the charity stuff as sort of a strawman.

Considering the other facts given, at least 90% this guy's fault, assuming it's true that other strangers and spectators were appalled enough to say something, and that she was startled enough to be upset. And that officials thought enough of it to DQ him. And that he didn't apologize or feel sympathetic after people said something OR after being contacted.

People online like to be literal and debate every little point on the internet. Showing the video would clear this up and make it obvious, was the guy malicious and narcisstic, or did he make a last-minute defensive move?

Legal issues? What if there were a security camera or other random video from someone else, would a victim worry about legal issues then? Truth is truth!

He was out to prove a message. Yeah, he was steamrolling in at 7:40 pace and had the open road and yellow line. He wasn't going to move for nothing. After the hit...he at least could have picked her up. Tridouche looks like the evil as# he is. Dqd after the race. Hahaha. Glad there are some standards of decency.
