It's ridiculous. Nike has too much power. I'm sure many women in the past barely missed the standard but did not have a billion-dollar corporation propping them up.

It would be sweet poetic justice if Hasay ran another 32:06.

Maybe Alberto can set up another race with Hasay being chased by mountain lions. That would actually be pure sport.

This a low-key race on a high school track. With mixed races allowed, for the women's 10k, I don't think the support of a billion-dollar corporation would be required to put on a similar race.

I'm not sure what the big deal about this is.

Makes much more sense to stay local/US than travel to Europe (deal with time change , travelling loss of training).

If it was a man needing the qualifying time and they set up an all comers meet to have good pacing through say 8k would this be deemed cheating? The only difference really is that final 2k+ of pacing(which a man pacing a woman gains), which other than on a windy day I'm not seeing as a big deal.

But it really isn't about what is fair or right , it is about whiny little lets run posters with their panties in a bunch.

I'm admittedly not really an Al Sal fan.

That said, I have no problem with them running a mixed race. I don't care if you have 50 people pacing you, 31:40 is 31:40.

Pdxrunr is correct that the best race weather would occur in the early AM. Mornings are almost always cool in the Rose city, even in July. But the race will be held in the evening, and on most days, the weather will be acceptable.

Salazar is aware that there could be heat in the evening, and is considering options. Right now the plan is to have the race on the 15th, with a backup date of the 19th, but that could change.

I just think it's funny that track times in mixed races are legal.

Seems like a similar race was set up for Dan Browne to get a 10K qualifier for the Trials back in 2008. It was on the Lewis and Clark Track.
