All Salazar defenders seem to have one thing in common: absolute certainty that it there is not point even questioning what Salazar is up to. How are you so sure of this? Come on, this is professional sports! There is serious money at stake. Nike is involved. You'd have to be really naive to pretend that it is ridiculous to even raise suspicions.
Main points:
Salazar and some of his runners take/have taken thyroid medicine. Sure, there could be a legitimate explanation for this, but you seem willing to concede that they may all be on it (which I'm not even sure of), but that is no cause for suspicion. Of course it would be suspect! At the very least, it would be open to debate whether it was ethical to have healthy people taking prescription drugs to help them recover from hard training.
For all the talk of what a great coach Salazar is, the "best in the country" etc, it is an undeniable fact that several runners have left him over the last couple of years. Runners voluntarily leaving the best coach in the country at least COULD be construed as suspicious.
Why did Rupp have to see a doctor in Houston for his thyroid diagnosis? Don't they just run labs and find out if you're numbers are off? These are not just rhetorical questions - I'm actually asking - it seems like it would be a pretty routine medical matter to me that would not justify the expense of flying halfway across the country, but maybe I'm missing something.
