Holy hell, I'd be all over that. I could watch all this stuff on my ipad. I'd pay $49.99 for that. Maybe even more.

NBC is waaaay behind the times. Maybe by 2016 they'll have it figured out.

Its the opposite. The ones complaining are in large part the tech-savvy futurists who have no longer hooked up to cable. If you still need that umbilical cord to survive that is ok. But the trends are moving strongly away from that.

Many people now watch video on screens that aren't televisions — and from sources that aren't cable companies. And they can be forgiven for thinking that when they do that, they're moving toward the future — unfettered by the ties that used to bind media's content and delivery systems together.

People keep saying this. It's not true at all.

I live in Cambodia - one of the poorest countries in the world - and they still show every single event live on TV (when the power doesn't cut out). Got to see Galen grab silver LIVE... Usain Bolt grab gold LIVE... Kemboi grab gold LIVE... and much more.

And almost ZERO commercials. And even those only last for less than a minute or so.

Not saying this to rub it in the faces of everyone in the civilized world. Completely the opposite. I feel very, very bad for everyone back in the U.S. who has to endure "tape-delayed" coverage (or no coverage at all.)

It is just utterly pathetic on NBC's part that they can't figure out how to properly cover the Olympic games. I live with a bunch of expats who didn't care less about the Olympics before it started. But now, they're asking me which track events are on every night and staying up late to watch them with me because I give them the back stories beforehand and make it fun.

What sucks is that by not broadcasting it live, I can't DVR races and watch them when I get home. Not all of us can watch live streams from work (where sometimes I have to, you know, work). So instead I'm reduced to being held hostage by NBC until 11PM to see one race. Lame.

I'm outraged too since I can watch any event live on the internet. And can still watch replays without having to DVR it.

I can only assume that you people that are outraged by the coverage also only get your news from the local 6 and 11 o'clock edition. If you miss it are you lost?

Turn off that old black and white TV with the dial on it and let someone introduce you to the internet. There's a whole new world out there.

Does it feel as if NBC and its affiliates are getting a little greedy with its London coverage?

As one who has defended the network's right to try and make as much money as it can off the games in hopes of offsetting the $1.18 billion it paid for rights, I have to admit even I have been getting a little queasy as to the way that long-held patterns of network prime-time programming and affiliate news are being bent in pursuit of extra profits.

For example, it looks as if the length of nightly Olympics coverage is now being determined by one thing: How many ads NBC can sell. Saturday night's prime-time coverage ended at 12:02 a.m. Sunday by my clock

They complain and don't get to watch. Those of us (the majority of people with decent jobs really) have cable and watch everything live online. Your insult and their complaining don't make sense. Everything isn't free just because we want it.

I assume by the next olympics a full live coverage package will be available for purchase. Sounds like cable subscriptions will change pretty drastically by that time.

I love sports and am disappointed that the coverage sucks. NBC has every right to leverage their broadcasting rights however they choose to, but I see their decision as depressingly, predictably short sighted. Their crappy coverage will inevitably drive viewers to other superior delivery systems, and their response will be to lobby the government for more legislative protection and vigorous enforcement. That will ultimately fail as well, but not before a lot of unnecessary costs and inconvenience to everyone.

They'd do exactly what they did in the 10k - play off a british guy as some sort of quasi-american.

I liked it much better when the Olympics was only on TV - mostly for a few hours on Saturday and Sunday. We got to watch what the network wanted us to watch. It really wasn't bad watching a week's worth of events into a few hours of coverage.

Either side you're on, you can't deny that the coverage is an absolute embarrassment. These games come once every four years, there's 525,000+ minutes in a year, so that's 2,000,000 plus hours in 4 years and they can't go a fcuking steeplechase without showing a commercial, they can't spare 30 minutes for a 10k without taking away over a third of the race because of commercials?

Then on top of that you have Tom Hammond. Kind of reminds me of Brick Tamland in that his IQ is about 48, except he's not rarely late, the tape delayed coverage is always late.
