D3 Atlantic Region 2012 XC

Im a fredonia guy and was one of the guys tempoing. It was our idea to tempo not our coaches. We have 5 races in a row and its the buff state invitational (most important race of the year). We did rest some of our top guys and the idea to tempo was more to help pull some of the younger kids along to a decent race rather than sit home and do the same workout. It was a way that we could help the team and do the same exact thing that we where already planning on doing that day. And to whoever said we where being douchebags in the pack...that was probably me talking to my teammates and various freshman to stick to the plan of running very easy through 5k and letting the freshman go at 3 miles to see what they could do. It may of been a waste of time but it was kinda fun

Well, at least we know Fredonia's on here, and a little touchy about their training. Using the excuse "it was fun" is no excuse at all, and if they're out for that kind of a cross country season, god bless 'em, no team will have to worry about them sneaking into a top 5 spot Regionally. If they are trying for a real season, not just ass grabbing and lollypops, I suggest they get off the freaking message boards and get back to training hard. Otherwise it's going to be a long long season, and given their current mental state, I don't think they'll survive it.

I actually think trying to race in August is a complete waste of time. I think most teams yesterday tempo'd it.

Wait, teams in the AR frequent the AR boards? Wow, fancy that. Why aren't people talking about Jiak and Ngabo? What kind of threat can they develop into by the end of the year. Two very good mid-d runners, sometimes it translates to xc, sometimes not.

Another Wortner to Geneseo? Or a Woodsey gaff on the first name?

Great name though... just read an article a few months back that they may be on track for a preventative drug against prion diseases. Would be a great advancement.

And what's the point of racing all out in August? Regionals is months away. When's the last time you saw any D1 schools racing hard in August or even mid September..oh right..never. No one will care what any of the teams ran at buff state come their conference meet/regionals.

Here's the truth about the buff state invite: Every suny team didn't race everyone, and the people who raced didn't race it. First interesting race will probably be the U of R meet, I imagine a lot of teams will come to look at the regionals course.

Everyone is going to get blown away by Alex and Bumkuth. They are great athletes, and they are definitely a top 15 conversation piece for SUNYACs. On another note, it might be a bit early to say, but Wilber from Port had a great race. That's a pretty fast time, and a great race for that early in the year. Can he hold through the season? Thoughts?

yes another wortner to Geneseo he's a younger brother. Jiak is going to be a pretty good distance runner,I saw him in a 5k in the spring and his heighth gobbles up the ground but ngabo I think should do well in mid distance runs only.he may be ok with alot of work we'll see.

Wtf do any D1 schools have to do with it? Oh I get it none of the D1 schools do it (yes plenty do) and they're the best coaches out there (no they aren't) so why would the D3 schools do it... Some of you guys are so ridiculous. I've coached both D3 and D1 and trust me the coaching in D1 is not any better than the coaching in D3 (actually in my experience it's been the exact opposite). Who cares if you're D3 or D1 if you run a 4:00 mile you are a 4:00 miler it doesn't matter what division you are in, that's what is so great about our sport. There is no soft competition so you can run up the score. The clock ticks by just as fast in D1 as it does in D3. We are not gods just because we are D1.

You are exactly right about one thing though. No one will care about the Buff State invite. I'm not sure that has anything to do with my post though. Did I say people were cutting their volumes back doing speed work and peaking for the meet? If a coach knows what they are doing they can set the training up so that you can race hard 5-6 times a year. Why race hard this early in the season? Why not? If there are teams out there doing nothing but aerobic runs what's the problem with having one hard effort that week?

So many people are under the impression that if you race hard every other week throughout the season then you run out of energy or get burned out by the end of the season. People don't have a finite amount of energy where they might run out of it at the end of the season. (unless you stop eating...or adopt Gerry Lindgren HS training principles) In the grand scheme of things one hard 25 minute effort out of 1,000's of minutes running is not going to break an athlete it's the hard 25 minute effort coupled with too much intensity too much volume (or too early/quick a drop in volume often) that will mess with a peak.

Ok, I think there's a misunderstanding here. Very few of the athletes in the Atlantic Region can run an 8k in 25 minutes or under. Maybe 10 or so on a god day. You forgot to account for the 2 or 3 minutes of extra pounding on the legs.
