I've NEVER seen an elite athlete wear shorts over tights. The only males I see do this are overweight men and insecure high school boys. *In person,* I've every elite runner I've seen wears just the tights.

Well that certainly muddied things. You've got one wearing pants, one with tights only, and one with shorts over tights.
There is no one wearing shorts over tights in that photo. Track pants are normal. Tights are normal. Shorts over tights do not make sense.

To the other guy, I'm not going to waste my time trying to find a bunch of pictures for you as I don't recall what races specifically or what training videos I've watched in which elites were wearing tights. Look at the pics txrunnergirl provided. Teg and Solinsky are both wearing tights (and no shorts). Here are a few though that took me about five minutes to find because I remembered them.

All these folks making fun of runners for wearing tights will probably go home and turn on the TV to watch some 300lb dudes wear tights grope each other. Don't get me wrong, I love the NFL, but there's definitely double standards with the uniform thing.
