I haven't really gotten into the tights, I'm more into the tapered, fitted running pant. My legs are already skinnier than a 14 year old girl's legs, I don't need to show the world, I get enough "run forest run" comments as it is. Love the Nike Perfect Track pant. Iowa is windy and that makes it feel colder than it is, so I wear shorts until it gets in the mid to low 40's then I wear running pants.
I am confused as to why wearing short shorts is perfectly fine but wearing tights is unmanly and unacceptable? When did runners become overly concerned with how they look while training? You were what is comfortable considering the weather and the training run you are doing on that day. If you don't want bs comments while running, wear basketball shorts and heavy sweatpants for all your runs.
I find personal satisfaction in intimidating the hell out of someone stupid enough to yell someting at me while I'm running - if they're not in a moving car, they are going to find out quickly all runners are not pacificts. I like to think I am sticking up for the running community in general and our right to wear what is comfortable and efficient!
I wear short shorts in the summer, tights on cold days (like I'm going to do a speed workout on the track in 20 degree weather in sweatpants? or even a road tempo for that matter) and am married w/ kids.
When it starts getting icy:
Tights for warm up before sessions.
3/4 tights for long runs. (Haters gonna hate but this is the way to go)

You guys are crazy wearing them down into the 30s, I usually throw some spandex under a pair of baller shorts when it gets below 45 and then go with full tights below 30... my business can't handle the cold
I usually wear basketball shorts over my tights. That way, I can carry an extra 5-hour energy to take at the halfway point.
If you wear shorts over tights, you're insecure, and really, just throw a bandana or a sock down there, keeps you nice and toasty. I only wear pants when it gets cold, like 1 digit, or lower temps.
I'm not insecure. I run with basketball shorts over tights, shirt off. Lots of football players wear it like that.
Gloves go on when windchill goes below 45 degrees.
Hat goes on when windchill goes below 40 degrees.
Tights go on when windchill goes below 32 degrees.
Wool socks (as opposed to cotton) when windchill goes below 32 degrees or when wet/snowy.
When it drops into the 20's, add insulated briefs under the tights.
I froze my dickhead once wearing only nylon running shorts in 36 degree weather. It was very painful.
Very painful. But that's how you learn. Its not about the legs. Your can wear underwear and shorts and run that way in 35 degrees. 45 degrees is my cutoff where I will wear running pants. (nobody runs in tights anymore do they?)
I guess its all different for every individual, I used to run with guys who ran without gloves in 30 degrees. I can't even dribble a basketball if its below 50 degrees. The pain of cold is way worse then the pain of running hard in the heat. At least for me.
Damn...I am so glad I live in Cali..I dont have to deal with all these decisions.... Now back to the more important crap.... Do you guys ever like your bananas a little green ??
