Yah, that guy on the other end of the phone needs to stay away from the Qaaludes.
Having the Us 10,000 meter record for 20 years is an afternote?

It's still the fastest by an American-born runner.
I was going to steer clear of that.
I'm no xenophobe, it's just that if you didn't grow up from Day One with the Boob Tube, school buses and Trans-fatty acids, it's like getting a head start.

I just stumbled on this thread after ritz's race today and was going to bump it to the top. Looks like someone beat me to it.
Nenow would have been fun to watch running today!!!!!
He's an anomaly. Great runner. Guess he ran "within himself" during workouts.
If I'm not mistaken, FOSTER ran some very hard interval sessions - probalbly more than Nenow. You can gOOGLE a bit to find history of his workouts. Remember that he went to the OYS the first time in the 1500m

Any relation to Jacob Nenow from Jesuit?
Dad
I remember meeting Mark at John’s Run Walk shop. While talking with him, I asked him for his autograph. He seemed surprised that anyone would ask him. Great guy.
I also remember running the 1983 Bluegrass 10,000 and seeing him going the opposite direction on his way to setting the course record, one that still stands.

Nenow=White Kenyan...all legs and lungs..
LOL. Nenow had the shortest torso I've ever seen on anybody. And the fact that he ran kind of hunched over accentuated it even more.
I'll never forget a 10K at San Diego... I was standing at the finish line. Nenow had obliterated the field. He turned on the home stretch and all we could see was a pair of legs with a head on top of them. He beat a star studded field that day and I think second place was about 25 seconds behind him. At his peak he was really something.
Wow, he's 68 now...
Give him today’s shoes and lactate buffering fluids back in the mid-80s, and he’d have quite possibly been the first human under 27:00 on the track.
Soccer style runner graduated from Collier High June 1976, Stetson University honors graduate class of 1980, holds 2 NCAA Division One distance records, one for fastest lap in a 10,000, one for distance, former nickname "The Mule," the first and only pro-athlete ever to come out of Collier County and one hellllllllll of a model American.
Wow, he's 68 now....yeah.....and you will be too one day. SMH..letsrun.com
