Every Marvel film: other than a well placed 7.62mm sniper round would end them. If they are effected by velocity - a punch, then a bullet would kill them.
Tolkien probably decided that the eagles were enough of a deus ex machine as is, and Peter Jackson wasn't one to outright change things from the novels (until the Hobbit trilogy, that is).

It's kind of like having a movie where some random 16 minute 5k guy races Lagat and beats him because Lagat thinks it's all a joke and doesn't run a step for a few months before the race and gives up a big lead early on thinking that he's just going to jog for a while and then win easy with a big kick. But then you make a sequel where the random 16 minute 5k guy somehow keeps beating the best in the world even when the competition is taking things seriously and giving the race their full effort.
It's a movie, man! Geez!
I have nothing to add, but lol at the post quoted in this response apparently being deleted. I know the mods are fickle, but criticizing Rocky might be the shakiest grounds for deletion I’ve seen on LR.

Instead, Kevin doesn't think to tell the cops, and decides instead to elaborately booby trap his house, doing thousands of dollars of damage and risking his life in the process, all for our Christmas entertainment.

I don't blame him. His family treated him like dirt. His siblings and cousins were mean to him, his uncle called him a little jerk, Fuller took great delight in chugging Pepsi so he'd pee all over him, and his mother told him to ask Santa for a new family.
Old man Marley was the only one who treated Kevin kindly, and everyone thought he was a mass murderer.

Eagles would have been the worst choice. And keep in mind, the hobbits would have been captured had Aragon and the remaining forces not gone on a insane suicide mission to draw out all of the enemy.
And I almost forgot, Hobbits.....
They are incredibly sneaky. Like, on par with foxes and other creatures of the woods sneaky. And small to the point that they are confused with children. Yet yoked in terms of strength, and equipped with all sorts of useful skills, like the ability to throw rocks harder and more accurate than Randy Johnson, and equipped with steadfast determination.

In Godfather 2 there was an assination attempt against Michael early in the movie. Michael knew something was up when he saw that the curtains were open in the bedroom. We later learn that Fredo was involved. Was he the one that opened the curtains? And why would the shooters be killed by the people that sent them and how did Michael know that would happen?
Why did Hyman Roth live in a middle-class home in Miami with only his wife to protect him? Why didn't they kill him then instead of sending a top family hitman on a suicide mission at the airport? And who was behind the attempt to strangle. Pentangeli at a bar?
