The best Coe, Ovett & Cram could do was 3.29. And they were all 800/1500m specialists. And all were world class throughout their peak years (say 21-28 years old).
Gebreselassie was world class throughout his peak years and his best 1500m time was 3.33.
Mo was an international also ran 21-28. His 1500m PB at 28 was 3.33.98. Then came Salazar. And a pile of gold medals at 5k/10k. Oh and at the age of 30 Mo does 3.28 for 1500m whilst following a 5k/10k training program.
Then this year he does a 59.32 PB for a half marathon in March and another 3.28 for 1500m in July (his first 1500 of the season) and all at the age of 32!!!

Training has improved significantly since Coe/Ovett/Cram. Just ask coach Conover. Heck this three guys would be close to 3:26 on modern tracks.

pretty sure Cram's best mile etc was done in Zurich, pretty sure the stadium there still looks the same now. Not sure the tracks are that much better than 1985. Peter Snell ran 1:44.2 for 800m on grass in 1962!!! Training hasn't improved that much.
The cheaters like Farah now use CERA which is even more potent than epo..
