I've been following this post for what seems like days now. I'm in a very similar situation only I'm on the opposite side as you. Seeing as how I'm hanging on, I would say keep trying because you might love her and she loves you. But honestly it would just be easier for her if you didn't hang out or talk to her. It really takes a toll on a person trying to make the other person want you. If you go on that way then if you ever do change your mind any excitement or spark you had may be gone, like mine is. Its hard to say, because I don't have the strength to do it, but a serious break might be in order. If you end up wanting her back then try. If she loves you that much it will take her a while to get over you and even if she hooks up with someone in the meantime it will be just that, a hookup. You can't let her know that you are on the fence though and treat it as it being really over.

Ok, I can not possibly respond to everyone that's posted now. This shit has blown up and it kind of scares me. She does not check letsrun, but I have plenty of friends that do and when our break up goes public.... well, I just hope this thread isn't on the home page anymore.

Update on my life: Having said that I am scared she will see this, I am going to hold some details back.

I decided to go with my gut. I believe I made the right decision and the majority of posters agree with me (note: I did not base my decision on this ridiculous thread. i spoke with my close friends and parents). We are still broken up and I was honest with her. The process is not over because of our living situation, but the hard part has past.

I will take the next week or two to really analyze my decision (so keep the posts coming). Like 775 said, I will go about my day to day... work, run, eat, sleep... If that does not work and I feel like I am in fact, I am an idiot, then I will try and get her back.

Like I said, I'd like to give more details but this has really blown up and I don't want to say anything I shouldn't

You’re thread caught my eye late last night but I didn’t read much of it then. Now I’m at work and reading every post isn’t possible at this time. Anyway – you and I lead/have led very similar lives, and while there are probably a lot of us out there, I feel a desire and obligation to post and help you since it may actually help me in the long run too. I’ve hoped that I would develop the feeling that she is “the one.” Sometimes I love her, see her as a mom, see her being a great wife, but then other times I struggle to get over things she does and says. On top of not knowing that she is ‘the one,’ I plain and simple just don’t want to be married now. I’m enjoying my lifestyle too much. They say the grass is always greener on the other side – but I’m confident that I (and you) would have a lot of fun without girlfriends just enjoying life for a while. She gets a certain amount of external pressure to get married, and she puts a lot of pressure on herself to be married – this translates into conflict in our relationship. I don’t see getting married as a milestone. It’s easy to get married – what I think is tough is making the right choice and staying happily married for 50+ years. If I was your actual friend I’d like to think I could talk to you, form an opinion based on the situation, and give a genuine suggestion for action. Unfortunately we don’t have that luxury – so my suggestion, based purely on guts, is to stay broken up from her. If the relationship proves to be the best and you want it back there is a chance you can get back with her and live happily ever after. If you don’t get out and do your thing you will likely regret it forever. Not that this kind of regret is a bad or detrimental thing – but why not take the opportunity when you have it. And if you break up, realize you want her back, but can’t get her back… that’s the part I struggle with regularly.

I completely agree with this. This is exactly what I thought after reading this thread. This same exact thing happened to me at the same age, and I am also one who went from relationship to relationship my whole life.

Yo dude, I got a lot of tail back in the day, most of these chicks were pretty smokin'. All of them had personality flaws that made them difficult to tolerate. I'm married now to a hot (not smokin') kick-ass wife with a personality that makes me happy I'm married the minute I wake-up and get out of bed every morning.

No, marriage and long term relationships are not Disney tales or passionate love affairs, but the personality makes the woman. A lot of that pin-up girl hotness in younger women is a red-herring if they're not stable and personable. Find someone that you respect, that makes you laugh, and that when you walk into a room you know she's the better half.
