The thread title says greatest, not fastest.
Solinsky very well may be the greatest and fastest white runner in history not to have won a national championship title, but he is not the greatest white runner in history yet. If he can start with a national championship and progress to an international champsionship medal he's up for discussion as the greatest and that is all at least a year off.
Heck he might not even be the fastest this time next year.

Not even close - Ever heard of Zatopek, Viren or Nurmi? Even the overated Prefontaine is greater based on the Olympics - 4th is much better than Solinskey has done to date. Viren may be the great white man ever becasue of teh Double Double which no one has ever done. No one will ever do the Triple that Zatopek did in 1952!

He needs medals and he needs to set world records when he wins his medals, ALA Viren,Nurmi,and Zatopek, to be considered the greatest.
As it has been stated numerous times in the past. It easy to run fast in time trial Europian races. But to run fast and set world records with the stress of the Olympics and World Championships that what makes a great runner.
Best example of a fast time trialer was Fernado Mamede of Portugal. He would smoke Lopes in Europian races, but Lopes would smoke Mamede in all championship races.
Solinsky is fast and I would love to see an American win a gold with a world record time.
But Ryan Hall has ran 2:06:17....
If you measure his times in historical/absolute terms, then Solinsky merits some discussion, but still isn't near the top of the list. If you measure his times in relative terms (i.e., vs. his competitors' best times) then he drops markedly lower. If you measure his ability to win/medal against his cohort, then he doesn't merit discussion at all.

It's not so much that he needs medals, its the fact that it is a joke to consider him a contender for a medal at this point. He got his ass handed to him by Merga all season long, a guy with has no chance of making an Ethiopian Olympic team and he is not the even the best 5000 meter in thec ountry of the USA, that distinction going to a semi-retired 37 year -old Kenyan.
