being cut from one of those sports doesnt mean a lack of talent in another.
It would be like saying if someone isnt good at math they must not be smart. In reality they could be very smart just in other areas of application.
A lack in baseball talent does not mean a lack of talent, apples to oranges...
In a side note, also sports like baseball and basketball require a lot practice. A good runner will be athletic on the court, but [in continueing the sterotype] will have a lousy shot or bad instincts. To an extent, those things are just learned through playing the game.
Most high school and college Distance runners are very talented athletes.
Reality: Distance runners were other sport's rejects in middle school

Lifting, swimming, and upper body workouts are detrimental to runners. I know collegiate runners who won't enter a weightroom or swimming pool.
btw, what is a jones counter, and who wears a jockstrap to run?
I have been hearing for years that I am the hottest looking guy ever in running. 2nd or 3rd maybe - but hottest? What a myth.
this is a good one- Geb is 5'5" and Bekele is 5'3".
tell the next person that says that being shorter is actually an advantage for distance running because a shorter person's center of mass is displaced less as they run (meaning they have to spend less energy controlling this change in center of mass)

Displaced less, vertically, as in less up & down motion?
I'd think that's a function of stride rate, not height - simple mechanics should tell you how far up and down you'll go in the earth's gravitational field, in 1/3 of a second.
Or did you mean something else?

Heh -- that's the #1 beginner myth -- I don't know howmany times I've heard that as an excuse.
Second favorite beginner myth (after a 5K in 45 degrees and overcast): "The conditions were horrible -- you can't run when it's this cold"
Breath in through your nose and out through your mouth.
Your body switches over to burning fat after 30 minutes of running.
