Of course Gerry is a nut. And believing him is nuts. However, if Bekele said he did the same at Mt. Sac it a lot of morons here would fall all over themselves defending the statement as truth. I can verify that everything Gerry has said is true. People have a hard time understanding all of the things Gerry has done because they themselves have not tried his methods. Gerry has a philosophy of not reading books to learn how to run. That's why United States runners have been so bad. They all read books on how to run and run from the back. Gerry believes you should run from the heart and in front in control. When you're in front you control the race. He also doesn't believe in hangin back to see how things shape up like most America runners. He is always about attack and having a race plan to attack. He also has no problem using up his own energy to make a race fast so everyone runs their best time and he ends up last.

What Gerry did was run a 13:44 5k in high school and a 4:01 mile. Every week he and Jim Ryun's times would be published across the nation. One week Ryun would run 4:08 the next week Gerry would run 4:07. This was when Ryun was a Junior and Gerry was senior.

I have also been running with Gerry in Honolulu the last 5 or 6 years. He's a great coach. He was also chased by the soviet soldiers at the airport when he was in Moscow. He was doing a workout out by the landing strip and the soldiers would run after him as he did his repeats. He thought they were just following along. He would run from one side to the other with them chasing him. They finally put him in prison but he escaped and made it back to the airport. All this stuff is true. You guys just don't get it.

Just want to make the comment that while people bring up that famous conversion calculators such as the McMillan Running Calculator don't match up any of his other PRs when a 2:00 marathon is put in, the equivalent PR to a 2:00 marathon according to the calculator is 16:06 (check it for yourself-

-obviously put in marathon, 2 hrs, the 20-29 age range, male, 100+ mile weeks). Therefore, he did in fact "run" one PR (16:08 4 mile) that would be equivalent to his claim of 2 hours.

(I'm not saying I believe that he did both of those things, this is merely a statement saying that both crazy claims are in fact consistent with each other according to the calculator, so belief in one would mean a belief in the other)

I asked one of the old timers at Mt. Sac to check the records to see if he could find anything. He did, the said they ran a 5K in those days and the record was a very fast 16:12 and that that was really fast for such a hilly course. So I think Gerry ran the time but not the distance, which was still reported to be very fast!!

I have met Gerry when he coached for Hawaii and he is a very nice man and very supportative of all the athletes from every school that was there. Try to remember "He that is without sin, cast the first stone."

Actually, GL does exhibit many of the behaviors of schizophrenia. You might want to check your DSM. Just a med student here but watch a few videos of GL and he seems pretty textbook. I certainly don't behave "normally", but always figure that's a good thing. My thoughts are not normal. My emotions are not normal. The things I do are not normal.

My thoughts jump between unrelated topics, at least that would be unrelated to most others. To me, they are obviously related. I only share them with people who would have some slight conception of this, or groups where some of the people would. Gerry Lindren is kind of an extreme type of me. :)

The thing about Gerry and his thinking, is that there are no boundaries for him. That can be a scary but also a good thing, as he and those like him are the ones who break through unseen barriers that are unsurmountable to the normal population.

And that verse is always taken out of context. The Torah (Law) required that both the man and the woman who committed adultery be stoned together. You can't stone the one without the other. Jesus was just acting as her defense attorney, not endorsing not judging sinners, liars, etc.

Come on. The guy did not run 16:08 for four miles. Nothing wrong with pointing out his claim is false. You don't need to run a sub 4:00 mile to know this.
