Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Driss a lot older then Benoit? That might explain his decline, not to mention starting your own business... Where as burnout is really the only excuse you can use for Benoit. Your arguments are weak sauce. Just because you know these guys doesn't mean they haven't bent the rules to better themselves. You've mentioned how Benoit is a national hero. I would consider that a great deal of pressure to perform. Perhaps even enough pressure to turn a good person on to drugs. Benoit's hair samples while in police custody prove drug use to be correct. I would think this to be a better explanation than burnout.

The title of this thread is sad, because Eddy is not stealing anything from anyone. He paid for his crime, did his time, and is now running some low key races to maintain form and fitness, as a running coach.

It is good that Eddy still has many supporters in the running fraternity, including parents who have entrusted their progeny to the genial coach.

The link between Benoit Zwierchlewski and Eddy Hellebuyck is also exaggerated, and it should be noted, that although Benoit spent his formative years in Belgium, he is a francophone, and Eddy is a dutch belgian speaker, and their respective cultures are as different as a Quebecer would be to someone from Manitoba (although both are 'Canadians').

Hellebuyck is also respected by many Kenyan runners who came and trained in the Albuquerque area, and he still advises quite a few of those guys.

Why would Pete Magill have to defend himself? Has he recieved a positive drug test like Eddy? Or is it just because he is a phenominal runner? It is no sweat off my brow to ride down a confirmed cheat like Eddy, especially since we all still have to compete against his tainted records, but once you start equating all good runners with drugs then we're on the bus to Salem. I've trained and raced with Pete and he works hard for what he's accomplished. Unless someone has some proof, like Eddy's positive drug test, they should probably shove their head back up their ass.

That's fine if you agree that the punishment is severe enough. He has not actually done any 'time' for commiting fraud - which is what it is - he just got a slap on the wrist and couldn't run for a couple of years (although I've heard he still did a few races)

He does show the perfect example though to the athletes he coaches. Take a chance on EPO as you will always get another chance. I wonder if he hadn't been to the Olympics if people would be so keen to be coached by him? Still being genetically gifted ( well not quite enough) seems to be more important than ethics

He once beat me by 4 mins over 9 miles in the Tour of Tameside. Maybe I should have quit my job gone full time and followed his example - with a little help of course!

Typical of this site; every top class athlete is accused of being on drugs )all the 'Epiopians') despite no positive tests. A runner actually gets busted, and you really have to hammer the gear for that to happen and people are jumping out of the woodwork to defend them
