Perhaps why he raced this weekend: 1) get the A Standard for himself and Jager, and 2) work the kinks out of high-level European racing.

Imbeciles. One race to guy, with several Americans in the 5000 B, and they cut off the feed. Ugh!!!!!!!
teg summer game plan:
1.win a medal at World Championships by trying to sneak into 3rd place at the finish.
2. break 13 minutes at Memorial Van Damme.
no feed for b section????
Sounds like a great strategy!! The worlds will be his 5th and 6th races of the year (prelims and final) and then the 7th race at Van Damme to try for sub 13:00. The way he looked today, I think that he will do it!!!! Go Teg.
Yes--he wanted the "A" and for Jager to go. But both Teg and Solinsky always start off at the back and they always are last in the lead group coming to the last lap or 200. That might work in the States, but never against the Africans. There's always someone who can close as fast as they can, and they put themselves in a hole by having to run faster on the last lap. At some point, if they are to succeed, they have to have the confidence not to settle, and to take control of the race. Remember how Kennedy took the lead in Atlanta. There's a lesson there.

He was officially given second place. I hope the douche in yellow likes the taste of Teg's giant American testicles.

I think he maximized his finishing place. so people are being overly crittical of his tactics.
He only went wide on the straight. He finished second.

Oh yes, so many Americans who wanted to desperately watch the B race of the 5000m. Must be dozens, right?
It was difficult to tell on the feed but from what I saw I think Teg looked like he was running well within himself for the whole race today.
I don't think anyone should underestimate what he just did - he basically ran 13.08 in what was pretty much a tactical race. I think his last k could have been 2.32 or 2.33. As someone else alluded to I think all he wanted to do today was get a race under his belt against top level competition before the worlds.
I'm not sure how he'll do at worlds against the Kenyans and Ethiopians - a medal is obviously not out of the question - but I agree that if he goes for the 5k AR post worlds he can certainly break 13 and hopefully get the AR.
I think Teg and his coach (and the whole Oregon project crew) should be commended for their intelligent approach to the season as Teg looks to be coming to the boil at just the right time!
Ok the probable reason that the feed was cut is that it was the feed that would be shown live on TV in Belgium, just like many big meets there are races before and after the main event that are not shown live on TV. If the local TV camera's are not covering the B races then they can not be streamed.
Good running by Teg, he looked comfortable for most of the race and should be capable of more.
Also from an Irish perspective, good running by Tom Chamney in the 1500m, 3.37 to take 4 secs of his pb and beat a number of guys with solid pb's.
Thanks Will! If and when you catch the B heat can you toss it up as well?
Fawn, honey, I thought you were dead. In any case, indeed, you're right, it must be dozens. Would you rather I not kvetch?

Oh...and has anyone seen the lists for the B heat of the 5k...why is their an Israeli guy with a 14.00 PR in there, but yet there are 13.30 guys relegated to the after program..ie C and D race...

Yes a bit disapointing....however i'm also shocked at the start list. The Americans went to Europe..to run in a B race where they are ranked 1-2-3? Kind of ironic....but hopefully some good will come from it.
That was a great race. He got boxed a bit but still a good 2nd.
Time a good boost before the WC and gets him team mate in to
He has the ability to go sub 13 one day
Haven't been the same since the kiln explosion.
