Yes, that is because the good D1 runners are more talented and went to school specifically to run and D3 runners went to school to learn, while running is just a passion(that does not mean they don't work just as hard though). Everyone knows that D1 is better, so what? Does that mean D3 runners are not allowed to get excited for their season? Get over yourself.

The word on the street is that Calvin has seven returners who have broken 15 minutes in the 5k. That's pretty good depth. I don't know if they have another Jed Christensen though, so maybe they have no front runner. Nevertheless I would definitely count them to be at least in the mix for a top 4 spot this year.
Back in June there was a rumor floating around that Calvin got some great Kenyan that could rival Kosgei. Who knows if there's any truth to that.
With Cortland the defending champs graduating 2, Geneseo in 8th graduating 0, and SLU graduating only 1 those 3 look like pretty solid bets. NYU is questionable, but definitely have the history of putting together solid teams.
NYU only loses their number 1 guy (2nd place overall tho) from their 12th place finish last year.

When's the first big meet? Notre Dame is usually a pretty big one earlier on. What other meets are coming up?

I would probably throw St. John's into your top 4, they probably have the strongest returning top 5 in the region outside of Nebraska Wesleyan. St. Olaf for top 10 at nats would be a shock considering they lost their 2 and 3 from last year and they do not have a ton of depth. St. Thomas has a couple of good returning front-runners and are extremely young. Hamline is also extremely young this year, but who knows what will happen on any given day.

Wow, as usual the pre-season poll is such a sh@*show. Someone should save this, half the teams in the pre-season top 20 wont be there at the end.
Calvin loses 5 guys, UW-Stevens, loses 4 of top 5, Williams lost 2 of top 4. Lax is top 3 pre-season every year, havent gotten it done in years. Cortland loses 2, but has best group back from track. NCentral lost 2 but should be fine with great up front guy in Spain. Oshkosh and NYU both had key people go down in the pile up in Hanover, both would have been top 8 which would change where teams finished.
Nothing much will change till the end of September, as most teams dont race anyone good till Griak, Williams, Paul Short get things going.
I think that it is interesting that UW-Lacrosse manages to be put in front of Cortland and Williams. Both schools finished way ahead of UW-Lacrosse point wise last year and return 5 of 7. I would not be surprised if we see the same top 3 from last year get top 3 this year.
Tufts could do a lot better than an also-ran if they pull together some depth, they have a good 1-2. Agree with the poster who said Williams is a little high, having lost some top guys. Edgar Kosgey was hardly a threat in track, anyone know why and if he should be back to his dominant self? Of course, the Ephs always seem to pull it together, turning some mediocre guy into a huge stud. What 4:10 freshman do they have coming in this year? Amherst could surprise if they put it all together, they return a lot of guys but it seemed like they never all had it on the same day. Any rumors on their incoming class? What about Bowdoin?
As a sidenote, I hear Chaffee ran 3:42 or something nuts like that after NCAAs. Is he joining a club or running full-time somewhere? Any other ex-'CAC guys tearing it up out there?
