tim nelson has never got the credit he deserved, even in high school when he won the state meet running a damn good time, all everyone talked about was how great of a kick the kid who got second had....if it was that great of a kick he would have won, tim actually ran the last 600 of that state meet faster than his 800 pr pace but all anyone talked about was the kick that came up short.

You claim this is just one race and ncaa's was just one race, but German has a long list of accomplishments including 2 records and has won a couple championship races, including big tens and the usa junior xc championship twice. On the other hand he has only 2 blemishes in his short running career, ncaaxc and flxc. Two huge races I admit, but according to his record, it's more likely than not that he will do well at worlds.

You don't even know what you're talking about, Fernandez has never run in a Big 10 Conference championship. I wouldn't deny that he has a good record in minor championships. Rupp does, too.

To show just how much it means, without searching the web and going with just your current level of knowledge, off the top of your head how many of the past 10 (1999-2008) US junior men's XC titlists can you name?

Wasn't Brent Vaughn point toward this race all fall/winter? Disappointing not to have seen him race since the Trials.
Did Quigley drop out? He was in the NYRR's twitter update early on.
Each would've had to have been in the top 3 in Balto to get equivalent or better prize money.

Nice to see Neely Spence improve from her high school level of performance to soundly beat the rest of the field. A great set-up for her - adjustment to college is minimal and working with her father/coach at the school just has to be a plus. This might sound gratuitous but when high school stars improve on their high school performances right away it augurs well for their future.
I don't get how anyone can say anything negative about Fernandez. He is just a supreme talent. Going to be fun to watch him.
The depth of the senior fields seems suspect. There are likely good reasons for it, but it is disappointing.
