You don't need these links to tell which coach has more class, if you were there in person you would know . . . . just watching the AA coach screaming at his runners telling them how poorly they were performing, during the race was sad to watch (during the 2nd race). Especially under the circumstances. And, Chico's #2 man (positioned in top 5 in the first race when it was stopped); was seriously affected by having the race re-ran; dropping way back due to injury in the 2nd go at this race.

Alaskas top 4or 5 were about that far ahead in the second race as well . Up to about 3 miles or so

Why do the coaches that select the regional ignore the NCAA rules when giving UCSD the chance to host?
Based on the history of cross country screw ups at this site, too many coaches who chose UCSD as a host site overlooked too many errors before this last mistake even occurred.
How about the officials - they allowed the race to be contested on this course...do they not read or just choose to ignore the rules? How about an official taking a tour of the course before the race starts - was there appropriate markings on the ground and proper flags at the intersection in question...seems like good officials would have caught that.
Gary didn't say all of this at a team press conference he just told it to a Chico news paper writer after the race who had made the trip down for the cross country race as well as the ccaa soccer tournament.
The point is he wouldn't sit there and complain about what happend, because everyone was put in the same position, so he put on his best face and got his team ready for the race ahead .

Did he injure himself during the 1st or the 2nd race? The race mishap affected some more than others. Seems to me, judging from the video that Jordan Welling posted, that the mishap affected HIM the most out of anyone since he was leading the race and apparently feeling pretty good. Now we may never know if he would have pulled off the win...
Jordan Welling is a good runner no doubt about it, and a nice guy.
And although he was leading at 2miles, do you honestly think that Bauhs was going to let him win, there were still over 4miles remaining in the race; which is a lot of room for a 27:48 guy work with.
As a Chico Runner i can honestly say that even though i was pretty upset with what happened and even more mad after they stopped the race. The second we heard that we were going to be running a 10k 2 hours later, I honestly did not care about what had happened before hand. We knew it was going to be hard the last couple miles since it was hot out and we had already ran, but all of us were purely focused on the race to come, and not worried AT ALL about what had happened.
The key to racing well was to think of it as doubling in a track meet, and we knew that everyone was in the same position as us. There was no need for making excuses or complaining.
are you kidding?! UCSD did a horrible JOB of organizing this race. The boys was the ultimate screw up - and I ran in the girls race, and when I was crossing the finish line, there were people passed out in front of me and not a SOUL THERE TO HELP THEM. Everyone was tripping on each other in the chute. They didn't give you any water as you walked through the chute - we're talking CHAMPIONSHIP race HERE!!!! and the first turn out of the tunnel, when you go out the gate and up on the road/side walk... there were cars on the other side of the road..........why not just block the road off for 2 hours?!?!?! They were trying to direct traffic in a NATIONAL QUALIFYER race!!!!!!???? SERIOUSLY!?!?!
It's a great course if you're going on a run with a teammate... but for REGIONALS? HECK NO!!!! It's too narrow.
and I think its complete Crap that they wouldn't let us in the second time to watch the boys, especially after them being so drained of running hard for 3-4 miles.
after all........ UCSD did ROYALLY SCREW UP this entire race, and I hold them completley accountable for this. It was NEVER the crowds fault like they say it was. (I def loved the crowds support as I was running in the 6k ... crowds = coaches, friends, family, and the crowds will never try to screw up a race when they are watching their dear loved ones) If you are a race official and tell people to get out of the way, they will listen to the official -- and get the heck out of the way. So, I do put complete blame on the race OFFICIALS for pointing the wrong way!!! I heard it was the assistant woman blonde coach... and my father told me she was trying to act like a hot shot for a photographer... telling him he was in the way....and that he couldn't take pictures of the race where he was when he was actually blocking off the right trail. My dad said she looked really bossy by trying to tell everyone where to go. She must feel about 2 inches big right now. WAY TO GO LADY ... you only screwed up people's chances for nationals, personal bests, seniors last years (we had two of them, I felt horrible for them) .... JUST CUZ you TRY TO LOOK LIKE A HOT SHOT!
I am very very very DISPLEASED and felt so horrible for my guys team, and all of the other guys running. Some couple hundred boys having to start ALL freaking over!! It made me sick to my stomach. For the boys - it was truly a test of their mental strength to get through that second race. and I majorly applaud them for being able to do what they did on Saturday.
I actually watched the 2nd race and was near the Alaska coach and I can tell you with 100% honesty that he was not yelling at his athletes and telling them they were doing badly.
Stop lying and spreading false rumors.

At least they stopped the race and re-ran it.
In 92 or 93 the NCAA II National Champs field got directed the wrong way and only 10-20 guys ran the full correct course as a couple of guys decided that they would run the marked course and not follow the front pack.
The leaders ended up running about 9km and afterwards the officials had to decide whether they re-ran the race, or figured out some way of scoring the race as it finished. They decided to ignore the guys who went the right way and scored based on the athletes who went the wrong way.
I think it was a Western State runner who was the first across the line from those who did the full course and he got a write-up in Sports Illustrated saying that he was the true National Champ in Div II.

It's also easy being gracious when you're a class act. Don't make an assumption about someone you don't know. Oh, I forgot, this is Let's Run.

don't take it personally - it's letsrun - he's making a goof - everybody knows the *ickhead officials and idiots running the meet are nothing short of prideful bastards.
Everybody also knows that 95% of the D2 and D3 runners that make their regional teams could kick the *hit out of a TON of D1 guys ...... and it's these D1 guys that will be yaking about their AMAZING scholarship (from a pathetic tiny private school) for decades and decades to come.
I've seriously witnessed a "D1" (27:XX 8k xc kind of guy) bad mouth a D3 runner (25:XX 8k xc, 14:xx indoor 5k) because he didn't have a scholarship.
I just reread my last post .... and it sounds like I'm bagging on all D1 runners - I'm not .... just the douchy, slow ones.
There are plenty of really fast D1 runners that could kick the *hit out of everybody, so there you go.

UCR hosted (pre-Irv Ray and DI). I was there as a course monitor. Fortunately, I was finished my chores at about the 3 mile mark, and unfortunately, I got to see the screwed up finish.
I call BS - WJC should have been either in his transition or in his first year of the White House. He was not a course marshall.
