The biggest opportunity for fights has got to be whenver guys can't slow down after the finish and they blow by you in the chute (even though they didn't actually cross the line ahead of you). This is annoying as hell in non-chip races, and you know the guy is going to get placed ahead of you in results.
With adrenaline pumping, it always takes significant self-control to keep from decking these guys. I got to believe that happens all the time in HS/College XC, never been there though.
Didn't Lunn nearly get kicked out of school for writing anti-semetic and/or racist graffiti on the walls of Stanford? Oh yeah, great guy. If he went to CU he would have been arrested.

A famous kenyan runner in the the 90s called Machuka punched Haile Gebrselassie at the finish of a race in europe for failing to take the lead in a 10000m race and he was suspended
I was at a relay road race about 10 years and this 300lb fat guy came out on his porch and started screaming obscene things at the runners. He was evidently mad that the road was closed on this Sunday afternoon. Anyway, the race director (all of 145 lbs) ran down the road, called the dude out on the porch and decked him with one punch. The dude fell back through his sceen door onto his own kitchen floor. The race director stepped off the porch and went to the line for the relay exchange moments later. The funny thing was, the dude he punched was his step grandmothers son. The guy has never been seen on race day since. That's justice in the mountains boys. No cops, no arrests, only justice.

Part of me wants to tell Wejo to grow the hell up and not start immature threads like this one.
However Reebok Aggies runner Carmelo Rios pulled a knife on Tom Downs (then a spectator--retired runner) at some bar at the Wharf to Wharf 6-mile race in Santa Cruz in 1991 or 1992. I think Carmelo had to go to jail for that one.
I guess that makes me a hypocrite.
After a dual meet last year, a couple of women got into a tussle and one tried to run the other over with her car. Classy!

Any old EKU boys in here? Anyone remember a certain EKU Kenyan runner circa 1996 XC season nearly getting in a mid race fight? Virginia Tech Invite I think. Right at the start of the race, tight pack, some dude runs right into the Kenyan, Kenyan points and evil looking finger toward this guy and says "F You" and tries to slap the dude in mid stride. Funny stuff.
In high school we had this bad ass discus thrower who was always fighting someone, had beefs with people all over this town and the next. Anyway, we're at the sectional meet standing around and this big 'ol dude comes running up to tackle our guy from behind. Our guy takes this dude (our guy is giving up a few inches and a number of pounds) and throws him over this railing into some tall tower structure. I dunno. Crazy shite.

hmm. at the st olaf invite one year, sherm the worm brought the duck with him to the awards ceremony after the race. he finished in the top 10 or something like that and took quacky with him. that pissed the oles right off and a few were seen to start to rush towards him, but thought better of it. it only took a few more seconds for a different ole to not think about it at all. you betta axe somebody how hard this guy nailed sherman, from behind i might add...so he never saw it coming ;-).
then all hell broke loose on the lutheran campus...there was a lot of shoving, tackling, and a few punches thrown. i can't say it was the best fight i've ever seen because i was involved in it somewhat, but it was an enjoyable experience. all while mz daymont was trying to hand out medals or t-shirts or whatever that race gave away for racing in that awful heat.

Braunskill hit Trapp in the head with his plaque after Trapp discussed banging his girlfriend, Katrina Price. Given his suspension and ejection in the NFL, I'd say Trapp is a major league hot-head.

The duck has returned from the suburbs. Now whichever team beats the other last gets it. Instead of brawling over it. Lame if you ask me. I liked fighing over it better.
