Just watched the race. Ruthe is 16 years old and that was a good reminder of that fact. Despite the talent, he looked out of his depth in a race of that caliber.
hocker is still far off what Jakob time trial at his best, but this is probably his best solo effort, so a huge step up.
a thing people might not remember or realize about Jakob's 3:45 low is that he actually kicked early to get the 3:29.6 1500 en route split. so he almost surely would have gone sub 3:45. Jakob's 400 split before the final 109 was was a 55.1
He then came in with a 15.5 for 109, which i guess is something like 14.1 or 14.2 per 100.

I wouldn’t say far off lol. Hocker had a lot left in the tank. Jakob was tying up in his indoor mile WR.

again, Jakob "tied up" to the tune of 56 second 400 pace for the last 100, after dropping a 55 flat the previous 400, because he kicked to 1500. but I guess my saying "far off" is about as silly as you saying hocker had "a lot left in the tank."

And that's ok! He's been running for 3 years.
The kid probably just had an opportunity to learn a ton. Once he gets more experience he is going to be a force.
Katelyn Tuohy has had the same race strategy for 2 years now. go out slow, find the middle of the pack and stay there until the finish.
I thought she looked better today even tho the time wss still mediocre. She was not fading the ladt 800 which has been her norm. Form looked a little better. Still a ways to go. Henes was giving her a lot of attention during and after the race.
