That looked pretty bad. She was airlifted out of there. Even if it's her last Olympics, is it worth major surgery or not being able to walk normally again? Imo no. Maybe that's why I'm not an Olympian.
1) I'm glad she went for it.
2) It seems like NBC and everyone is exaggeratinng the severity of this. It is protocal to fly anyone and everyone who can't ski down off the mountain.
When I woke up I tried to find it taped on youtube tv (It tapes all Olympic action ) but it was impossible to find at first. I then turned on regular NBC. The host said she crashed, said she was on the side of the mountain for 20 minutes and was airlifted out and then added we are still waiting for an update onf her condition
The way she dramatized it I immediately turned it off so my son didn't watch it.
She didn't a) Explain it was protocal to fly her off and b) add that the injuries clearly weren't life threatening.
I then found it, watched it and told him to come in and see it. The way it was described I was afraid she'd hit or head or something.
I watched the original YouTubeTV coverage that aired live. It might have been on USA network.
Throughout the 20 minute delay you could hear Lindsey crying out in pain many times. That began very early, long before anyone got to her. She also had a couple of quick sentences that were audible.
That aspect might have been the reason NBC warned about the crash and the content. I'm not sure if they edited out the painful cries in the taped versions.
When you are supposed to be representing something bigger than yourself why would you eat up a spot and waste a medal opportunity for TEAM USA when you have zero chances of winning. This is different from good sportsmanship being displayed when you are finishing a race after being injured. This was selfish
BS She actually had a chance of winning and her team mate actually won.
Any teammate speaking out against Lindsay or beating her in a practice run would be blacklisted. Big business
Lindsay was not taking an aggressive line she was 100% out of control well before the gate. That why she was launched sideways, I raced DH in college. A ruptured/torn ACL is nonsense to ski on.
Its Lindsey Vonn, she is the best of all time, experienced, bigger, stronger...which is why she is #1 in the world standings at 41 y/o. So yes, its risky but as others have said many have skied on pro tour with no acl. She probably held back more than anyone in practice runs and was still among the fastest.
In all sports, decline eventually comes with age. For athletes for whom their sport is their life that is hard to accept. With regard to the margins in her sport, 41 may have been too much for Vonn to have asked for in order to be at her absolute best. At 70 mph anything less could be disastrous.

There's no DH in college. Liar
There was DH when I was in college skiing on 215’s
sitting back even then was the kiss of death go through the film frame by frame had she not hit the gate she would have flown another 40’ landing on her butt/back
"She went for it" is a pretty good take but why hasn't the US produced a bunch more decent skiers in 20 years to take her place. With wealth inequality at an all time high, ski mountains are packed. It feels like we should be producing more new blood every 4 years. I understand that Breezy Johnson won so there's someone but it's not a positive when a 41 year old on one leg with a huge injury history is the best we can send to the Olympics. Are we the Cleveland Browns going into the season with Joe Flacco starting? Do we need to call up Peekaboo Street to play the role of Phillip Rivers?

I am very skeptical you did. I have never heard of a College Downhill event and 215's are way too short for downhill race skis.

Ya otter, the last NCAA Downhill was in 1975 @ Durango Co Purgatory Ski area. DH was the marquee event for years but two deaths (72 & 73) ended its run. 215cm skis are over 7’ long. Of all the equipment I wish I had not tossed - my helmet.

I run trails now for the rush.
Glad you used AI to find that. You would have been laughed off the course in 215's ESPECIALLY back then. Nobody raced downhill using 215's back then and even now I am pretty sure they are required to be longer than that.
You got caught in a lie. Use a different handle now like most here do.

Ouch otters ego got an owie !!!!! Confronted with the facts about college Downhill racing & 215 cm skis being long was too much for him to admit. Take the L son & try skiing sometime it’s fun.

Sorry, I didn't mean to insult someone in their 80's that trolls message boards.

If a younger skier couldn't beat a 41 year old for the Olympic team, would you consider their participation in the sport a recipe for disaster too?

You missed the point. Vonn isn't just another skier. She has been the best. But even the best will go into decline and that is what age will do. She is 41. How many athletes are still at their best at that age? She only has to be fraction off for the fall she has just experienced.

Because the smart kids from affluent families who ski race want to move on with their lives and not dedicate their prime years for education and career building to a sport that pays nothing.

again, for the 10th time, she is not someone we rolled out there in a wheelchair. She is #1 in the world. Not the US, the whole world. Right now. And even in a hospital bed she may still win the globe for the whole season because she is so far ahead of 2nd place in the world. lets give credit where its due and stop this false narrative. There are no style points in downhill. She has more points than the 2025 season winner last year and we are only half way through the season!! She was there not because we didn't develop talent. She is destroying the field his winter, by 150 pts! If she is 75 y/o she is still # 1 on the roster. She is on pace (was) to more than double the podiums and points of last years winner.
