Heartland individuals ran very well today. The Heartland region is usually not super competitive team wise (exception with Sioux Falls Lincoln), but the individuals are very strong.
I'm assuming Redondo and Manhattan Beach have been training in the sand to get ready for these conditions. Do they do that in general? Does that explain why some of the better teams are from the beach cities?
the sand is not the reason. the perfect weather to train in year-round and great running routes in cities that promote health-conscious parents who promote running might be some explanation. and great coaching
why do none of these kids look happy except for the winner? isn’t this supposed to be fun?
Bro they are bummed. They came to win and put their heart into the race. I feel bad for Caden, he's clearly going through it on the stands. Let the kids be emotional, in fact I love how seriously they take this.
You misunderstand. Even the Niwot kids didn’t celebrate and hardly smiled.
Cali 13-14-15-16 shows once again that they are fraudulent for how many bids they consistently get.
It's not a bad region- but it seems that when there are two teams of a similar resume, the committee always goes with the Cali team out of the two. Maybe, since Cali has proven time and time again that they don't run particularly well at NXN (on average), we should stop favoring the Cali teams.
Maybe they did their celebrating off camera when word of the results got out. But even if they knew they won you’d expect some cheering, smiling, clapping on the podium. Only the individual winner had a big smile on his face. Too much pressure on these kids.

They are probably more relieved they didn’t lose than they are happy to have won. Not uncommon for a favorite.

I'm California native and root for any California team and runner.
There should be no excuses. You must find a way. Newbury Park did. They found a park near the school that was over watered and made the conditions like Portland. They trained at that park. So when there is a will there is a way. California has many parks that get over watered. Find one and train on it.
Source is from the HD Runners series of the 2019 season between Newbury Park and Great Oak.

Other than the SW, how many regions put two teams ahead of them?
Why would they show the EXACT same NXR highlight reel a second time? Crazy idea: what if they showed just the boys' NXR highlights before the boys' race and and then show just the girls' NXR highlights before their race?
Edit: I'm an idiot and my stream restarted

I think the California boys teams outside of Jesuit CA did just fine. To be honest, I expected way worse. This idea that California teams are being held back by terrain is nonsense and just a lame excuse. They finished as good as they could have.
They were all a ahead of Northwest #2, Southeast #2, South #2.
They were behind Plainfield North MW #2, Haddenfield NE #2
#9 Haddenfield - 286 points - NE #2
#12 Plainfield North - 294 points - MW #2
#13 Redondo Union - 309 points - CA #2
#14 Jesuit - 336 points - CA #1
#15 San Clemente - 372 points - CA #3
#16 Mira Costa - 397 points - CA #4
When it comes to at-larges in retrospect - MW and NE probably should probably have one or maybe 2 of California's at-large.

This is only the third time at NXN for Sioux Falls Lincoln, and they finished 15 places higher than any other time they went to NXN
How about we count up SW whether on a team or not? Same when it comes to the SW Girls. I looked at the top 4 girls from SW regionals- they all live at 4500- 6000 ft. Rahmer probable lives the highest right at 6000 ft in the Sandia Mountain foothills (I know the family). These kids just have more left in the tank when push comes to shove after they get 20% more Oxygen than they're used to running with.
