Weather at Hamline was ideal for once allowing records to be broken all night. One thing I noticed is that it is very difficult to double up on anything over 200M against such strong competition. Goergen attempting the 400M and 800M was a valiant effort for an underclassmen, but Peterson just too tough in the 800M winning by just over a second. Even someone as talented as Fries getting beat in the 3200M after a great 1600M battle with Flippen shows how tough it is. A lot of talented underclassmen in the state with great performances by Flippen, Goergan, Semling, Berndt, Wirth, and Littlefield. A fun night all around!
Boys 1600m: Credit to Stuwe for taking it out hard the first lap, not sure why he didn’t run 3200m.Impressed with Flippen taking lead with 500m to go and holding off Fries on the backstretch and winning it. Most impressed with Wiehoff- he was in no-man land the whole race but even nearly caught Hallen at the end. Obviously great race by Berndt too as a sophomore running 4:12.
Girls 1600m: Pretty much as expected with clear Gullickson-LaMotte battle early on with Jazleen and Friedrich battling for 3rd. Maddie did all the work with LaMotte taking lead with 150m to go. Top 4 all seniors and 8 of the top 11.
Boys 800m: So impressed with Aaron Peterson’s race. Took the lead, slowed it way down, then visibly changed 5 gears when they hit the bell and the whole pack didn’t know what hit them. Such a smart race trying to win when your main competition is right off a hard 400m race.
Girls 800m: Very fast. Ross goes 2nd fastest AT and Lansing now 4th AT. Impressed with sophomore Petricka going 4:59-2:12 and getting top 5 in both.
Boys 3200m: Almost didn’t realize Erik as he has grown taller and visibly stronger. Don’t love the antics down the stretch but like I said earlier, it is the biggest race of his season. Semling also said in post-race interview that he wants state record of 8:43 next year. Wirth took a risk going for it with the top guys and was rewarded with 3rd in 9:10. Littlefield had a strong 2nd half to challenge Wirth late and get 4th. McVay had best kick in the field to get 5th and drop a big PR. Lot of fast times after him. How many races ever have we had 9 guys break 9:20?
Girls 3200m: Class A runners win both 3200 races. Duffy runs so effortlessly and just sat on Jazleen/Maddie all race until the last stretch. Great race for Myran being there at the end. There was a decent pack with 2 laps to go, so you didn't realize how fast it was- 6 girls at 10:40 or faster.

Same. It sure doesn't make me want to root for him.
I was so impressed with the results from Class A runners at Hamline - personal bests for everyone there except Rasmussen and Goergen (who still PRed in the 400). Wiehoff's 4:15 makes him a legitimate threat for Semling and I'd take Wiehoff in a 400m. That made state a lot more interesting!

I'll chalk it up to being young and dumb and excited in the moment...but to do ZERO of the work for 3050 meters, then start waiving to the crowd down the homestretch is a tough look.
Hopefully a coach/parent/mentor said hey, there's a more gracious way to win.
The Minnesota State Patrol says 32-year-old Ryan Michael Eiler was traveling northbound on Highway 169 near Highway 62 around 12:40 p.m. when his vehicle abruptly swerved to the left and collided with the cement median barrie...
Next fall Minneapolis Washburn will have one of the best XC teams they’ve ever had.
Their top 5 returners: Mcvay (9:15) Omar (9:40) Rasmussen (9:43). He hasn’t run much XC, so no idea if he will do it next year. Drekonja (10:04 (10:03 last year, and 16:20 5k for XC)) Dodge (10:12)

Yes! In my rough early 2026 XC ranks (pre-track), I have them 5th in the state. Though in a section with Wayzata and Edina, it will be very competitive to make the state meet.
I believe Rasmussen has only done NXR, so he will be the big wildcard. Liam Burow ran 17:15 at state last year too, though he isn't much of a track guy.

Looking at athletic net, looks like LaMotte ran a solo 10:29 on Thursday beating Loberg from Eastview by almost one minute. Looks like the top time in girls AAA so far this year. Curious to see if she does 16/32 instead of 8/16.

Really impressive solo effort. I think she should definitely consider it. She has a better chance of winning the 3200 against Gullickson than the 800 against Ross, especially post-1600.
Did Semling just give up his MN high school eligibility by running unattached in a coolege race this weekend? What are the MSHSL rules on this? I didn't think high schoolers could race outside of a certain distance, nor could they race in college races.
