They lose track of the benefits and important value of staying fit. From the ages of 9 to 30 fitness was about being in shape to race that was it. The value of it produced great results I will put my all-time best at the bottom of the page being that this is a running website
I always like to somewhat point out that I was a runner at some point of my life. At age 30 I tried at getting back into shape I missed competing. The best I was able to do was a 16:14 5k at Carlsbad and a 52:27 15k at the Hot Chocolate series. I noticed I had extremely painful issues with my knees and figured if I could figure out the sky was the limit. At 32 was racing a 5k after a 4:56 first mile I could not accelerate and was unable to shake 2 other runners. Once we got to the finish area I attempted to kick as I have always been a vicious kicker
but could not kick it felt like I was holding my breath just chest pain. Lone behold a couple months later I collapsed and took an ambulance ride to the hospital and found out I had a 90% blocked LAD and almost died. After I got that stented running really lost its appeal and imagine thinking you are going to be competitive again with a straight up diagnosed heart issue.
Anyway, fast forward I am 43 years old now obviously don’t run anymore but desperately needed a way to stay in shape after nearly hitting 200 pounds. I have found that the Stairmaster completely sucks but does not involve impact and now that is my go-to exercise. I have already completed 800 Floors this week and try to get around 1,000 floors a
week. I had back surgery in January but am back to getting in my daily steps. Being out of shape in your 40’s and 50’s is just being stupid. I still like to drink occasionally but have cut that down quite a bit and go months without it now. Obviously, I started to really miss competition as there are guys in their 40’s and 50’s that are still running under 2:30 in a marathon, some under 2:20 I know that is never going to be me again. For competitions I am a tournament poker player and sponsored during the World Series. I have found that tournament poker is a lot like running I will provide the similarity. A good workout makes you feel like you have earned your day!
