After the postings here I started following the daily dispatches of an Everest guy and it looks like the weather pattern this year is much tougher with a lot of wind forecasted for the next weeks.
So he will be the first sub 4 minute miler who also when to the summit of Everest
nah there's been a few already, mostly Brits
climbing everest isn't a challenge anyone really cares about in 2025, people know that it's not that difficult and the sherpas do the actual hard work. the challenge is getting the money to do it.
it's like the 6 marathon majors medal thing. it's not a sign of achievement, it's just a sign they have a lot of spare cash
Eh, I would agree that it has become a bit pay to win, but there is still a lot more inherent risk in climbing Everest than a marathon major or Ironman. Even with the most expensive sherpa guides and fancy gear, the chance of dying is very real. Facing that alone earns my respect.

Someone risking their life just for the thrill of it earns your respect? He's literally paying a huge sum of money to travel a road thousands have done before that also carries a real chance at the loss of his life.
There is a lot of debate here about how difficult Everest is. If your being assisted all the way. Have your belongings taken are of. Helped over the hard parts and handed a new bottle of oxygen every time you run out, it is not THAT difficult. That is why many people who really do not belong on a high mountain are able to do it due to the professional mountain guides. If ya got the money they will get you to the top. (maybe)
BUT if your climbing it mountain climber style with only minimal assistance and depending on your strength, conditioning and experience, then reaching the peak and returning is a tremendous achievement.
Lots of deaths on the Big E happen on the way down...
Yes but as somebody else posted, extremely difficult and dangerous are not quite the same thing. Mountain climbing is dangerous period. All over the world. And the oxygen issues, even with supplemental oxygen puts people in danger in high mountains.

Yes. Even 1% chance of dying is a significant risk!

It doesn't matter if it earns others' respect or that it has been done by thousands and isn't historically important. He's doing something that he wants to experience for himself.
I highly doubt that. I climbed Mt Whitney last summer and that was infinitely more difficult than any marathon I’ve ever done (which includes many sub-3s). Everest must be 10x+ harder than Whitney.
Only mountains I want to climb are San Gorgonio, Shasta, Whitney, and Rainier.
Check out Mount San Jacinto, the cactus to clouds route. Can be hard to find a good time when it isn't 100+ degrees but also doesn't have snow at the top. Plus you can take a tram and skip much of the downhill!
Well in 2024 a total of 860 people climbed Everest and 9 people died trying to do so (which was lower than most years). So around 1 in 90 died trying to climb it. Therefore, I wouldn't describe it as an 'easy' accomplishment.
Though it would be funny if Nick got within a couple of meters of the summit and found Mohammed Aman out of his head on drugs, blocking his path, lol.
There’s a difference between difficult and dangerous. The actual climbing of Everest isn’t that difficult (compared to training for and accomplishing a sub-4). It’s dangerous. People don’t die attempting to run a Sub-4.
Hopefully he takes the death zone seriously that's all I can say!
What exactly are you trying to say?
What he is noting is once you enter the death zone you are dying as in you have limited time to summit and return to a reasonable altitude. The death zone is at an altitude in which human life can not sustain. The oxygen is insufficient to survive. If Nick does not take it seriously he will die no if ands or butts about it. Some of the most experienced mountaineers have perished in that particular level!

thanks Karen(s)
Wow witty did you come up with the thanks Karen yourself? You have to be a stand-up comedian or something because I literally can't stop laughing at your comment, I mean you should write for SNL or something!
