That was not a sub 25 last lap. Ngl I’m not impressed by this. Josh Kerr dropped a low 25. And ran sub 7:40. According to citius, he closed in 26.67.
Why would you listen to a news media intentionally biased against Jakob?
Anyways you are simply crazy. The final 1500m, kilometer and 800 were faster, Jakob was also holding himself back on the final lap, both wins were comparable (Kerr ran 7:43 to win)
Jakob could have done that blindfolded. He wasn’t trying.
If this were the case he would’ve gotten the lead before the last 30 meters. Aregawi ran the exact race that can beat the better man indoors and he was fresher, that’s it. I don’t get the denial over this….Jakob still won.
He went to pass with 200 to go and got tangled up a little. He then calmly waited to pass toward the end because he knew it would be easy and there was no rush
People are crazy. Aregawi is excellent and he nearly beat him straight up. Jakob did have a 1500 round in his legs, but this more shows you the gap between Aregawi and his choking compatriots in the 5,000.
Jakob was intentionally waiting for the final 50, Aregawi was flying in the homestraight but Jakob knew he would slow down. People thinking that he was struggling are crazy. Also, Aregawi is a 7:21 3000m runner, nothing to be ashamed about.
He clearly tried (quite hard) to pass Aregawi on the home stretch with a lap to go. If you can't see this you should get your eyes checked.

He didn't tangled up, Aregawi just put in a massive surge and held him off. Good move tactically, as it almost resulted in a win for him.

Also it's not a question of whether Jakob was "struggling". It was a slow race, so neither him or Aregawi were struggling in a basic sense. It's very hard to pass on an indoor track, and I think Jakob had to access his top gear to do it in that final 50.

He didn't. He did put in a surge with 200m to go, but he realized Aregawi still had energy left, so he followed until the final 50 where Aregawi was slowing down and simply outlasted him. His top gear is close to 12.8x, he was saving energy.
Karalis looked like he was having the time of his life out there. Good for him. A well deserved PR and silver medal. That was a fun watch. Love to see athletes exuding joy as they compete.

Re-watch it: . He clearly tried to overtake, he does get tangled up slightly at the end because he was fighting for the lead position into the turn.
I'm not saying it was a 100% effort, he did ease up in the last 2-3 meters, but a slight misstep from Jakob on that final turn (e.g. stumbling a bit and losing a fraction of his momentum, which is possible on the sharp turns of an indoor track) and he loses.

You clearly aren't getting my point. You said that he had to access his top gear, he didn't. He outlasted Aregawi after spooking him to put a huge surge in.

It is even more clear rewatching the race video that Jakob was cruising for 150m after a failed attempt to take the lead at the bell, to then relaunch an attack to overtake in the home straight for the win.
He even said in his post-race interview with JG, "had I been in the lead I would have been running faster," but he knew he could beat Aregawi in a sprint finish based on previous encounters.
What a race from Sam Gillman. Get this man a contract!
Sam ran a fantastic race. I think if he had been a little more patient before kicking on the final lap he may have nabbed the bronze. But still put himself on the world map with this one.
