nothing weird about josep sola benitez running 57:38 and Ivan serrano hernandez breaking 58:00 as well.
this will not stand. sorry people.
Those times are definitely chip errors or guys crossing over the finish mat without covering the full distance.
According to the live splits (which only have the 5k and 10k splits before crapping out), Kiplimo hit 10k at 26:50 with Kamworor and Samwel Mailu in 2/3 in 27:44 and neither of those “sub-58” Spaniards anywhere to be found in the top-30 (29:34 or faster). There is one runner listed first ahead of bib numbers 1, 2, 4 at the 10k split: bib number 29577 Esther Sanchez Gomez is listed as splitting 26:37.
So all these errors and shortcomings do reflect poorly on the organizational quality of the event, but it’s fair to assume we don’t have to worry about these no-name Spaniards going up on the all-time lists and they did not beat Geoffrey Kamworor. Kamworor was 2nd in 58:44 and Mailu was 3rd in 59:40, neither of which were PBs—this wasn’t a race that totally rewrites the top list or where everyone runs a huge PB.
The best/most reliable account I’ve seen so far is the brief World Athletics recap which gives Kiplimo’s 5k splits and the top 3 finishers:

The splits say Kiplimo was basically a dead heat with the 10k WR between 5k and 15k, I'm skeptical the course was legit.
Almost a minute ☠️
Jacob Kiplimo destroyed previous HM WR — 56:38 in Barcelona.
His 5k to 10k split was (now) 26:33. I say “now” because the World Athletics recap has been edited and now reads “his 15km split was initially recorded as 39:47 before it was confirmed after the race as 40:07.”

Fair enough then how about 12:44:09 and 7:22? Can it not stand too to be fair!
lol these are not anywhere the same level of outlier performances.
JOSEP SOLA BENITEZ. 57:38. ??????????????????
I’m not your sweetheart Khamis, I don’t use that many exclamation marks right? It was an error in the timing system and I get that. I didn’t see the results list initially but I knew kamworor was second. Still hats off to my boy Kiplimo who like Kerr has ran clean and has not come out of nowhere like Josh Hoey and Cole Shocker.
I’ve been coaching high school track and field a long time. Guys I have now running low 4:20s and 9:20s would have been 4:35 and 10:00 guys in the 1990s. The tell on their talent level is their 400 speed and how much training it takes to be good. I have guys now that run in the 4:20s who couldn’t break 6 as a freshman and still can run faster than 56. In 1995 a kid who couldn’t break 6 as a frosh and 56 by senior year was maybe running 4:45 at best.
My training has changed for these kids. They do it year round now, the shoes are different and the expectations are different. It’s basically a different sport.
If some of my guys can run 4:20-25 off modest to little talent, it doesn’t shock me one bit that there are quite a few sub 4:00 hs milers. And if there are quite a bit of sub 4 high school milers the pro times start to make a lot more sense.
These are the splits from the World Athletics race report:
5k - 13:34
10k - 26:46
15k - 40:07
20k - 53:42
That means his successive 5k times were 13:34, 13:12, 13:21, 13:35.
No way... what did I just wake up to?? 56?????
It was in the works for some time. I’m proud of this achievement. My sport is now vindicated because of kiplimo and I know the Americans are really jealous about him!! Well they can do nothing about it because their best guys are just way too slow. Fisherer will not work well on the concrete roads, his schizo running style with right arm held much lower than the left arm, staccato gait and robotic rhythm will be swallowed by the roads. Same goes for Jakob. Once your nostrils have smelled too much rubber that chemical intoxication forever changes your cellular behavior and makes you breathless on the roads and that’s why we saw Jakob gasping desperately for oxygen!! Goodness me!

Wonderful ain’t it dude? Aren’t you proud of it? Such phenomenal splits are why I love this sport because it satisfies my cravings for perfection in the laws of space and time!! Kiplimo fills that space-time void for me and for my pleasure. He also has a very fluid biomechanical motion with an antigravity feel about it!! You don’t see that with Fisherer and you wonder how he is running 12:44 ahead of Bekele regardless of shoes. You can easily tell who is the real clean world record holder and it’s Kiplimo!
