Jakob tells norwegian tv that he was running this race like it was a 1500 - the goal was to go under 3.30, and then do his best to hold the pace up for the next 109 meters.

3:25 in a DL race this year. No, he won’t set the wr at world’s. This may be his best year for 3:25. Running 12:30 can wait…..

Or stupidity (which is often related to arrogance). Especially since the tactic has such a low success rate. Ingebrigtsen won his 1500 gold medal when Tim C tried the tactic and also failed.

He is either 1) not a level above everyone, 2) afraid of his kick, or 3) not a smart racer.

His times indicate its not one, and his arrogance indicate it is not two, although sometimes arrogance is used to cover up insecurity.

I think people just need to accept that Ingebrigtsen isn't the smartest tool in the shed. That's OK. He is still an amazing runner.

He has said he went out faster than he wanted. I think the plan was an honest pace till 700 to go then throw the hammer down. He messed up the first lap and once he was committed kept the gas on and hoped for the best.

Yeah I would disagree with that because he could have - and it is/was possible. What I think the issue is, is that getting it right without the safety of your little LED bubble zipping round the inside of the track at the perfect and even speed, is really hard.

And I would ask this question - is it arrogance if it's his only truly viable way to win? He's not winning in an up-and-down paced old school race where the last lap needs to be under 51 is he?

Great run by him today. You could tell he was extra motivated - even though he didn't have anyone there he definitely pushed it hard. There were a few times I thought he was going to ever so slightly lose the top of that green light bubble but every time he seems to just dial it in and get back on it. He ran about a second faster than I thought his max was going to be today - impressive. Going to be such an interesting year and I really hope he shoots at the mile record because as I have said now many times, I think he can run 3.42.8 there or thereabouts.

With Wale and Gebhriwet in the race, I'd say 50/50 if they're in shape. They're both good enough to challenge it at their best.

I mean this track having wavelight installed is definitely a massive help to these record attempts - wouldn't be shocking

I think this will be Hocker’s year to dominate. Jakob couldn’t drop him last year and he’s much stronger now. Hocker will be the first repeat champion in the 1500m in over a decade.
