i think you throw around sports because it's zero sum, winner, loser, and you can pretend you're protecting sally.
but when you're saying a teacher doesn't have to respect the trans person's change, pronouns, etc., that is not about sally, that's about the trans person's rights.
you're offering up a set of policy items, only 1 of which where you can call your daughters the victims. the overall thrust is anti-trans using the sports thing as a shield for the rest, as it's, bluntly, fairly unpopular. it's a trojan horse for the rest of the bashing.
i love the claimed "vast majority" stay in their gender lane and then can only name the 1 girl trans runner anyone knows about, hiltz. which is likely even rarer than the 10 trans girls in all of NCAA.
dude, you're a fraud. 5 seconds after he does this, the DOJ and EEOC are going to be tearing down 10 other uses of title IX in the college context, eg, sexual harassment and rape, gender equity between teams.
oh, but "the legal basis for screwing over the trans folks is solid."
it's kind of like selling you protect women when the next actions after this will be anti-abortion, anti-contraception, and gutting equal pay cases.
from what i hear, there are already some butch looking girls -- and i mean biologically too -- getting bothered about are they trans athletes. that's where this crosses over into harassment. you pretend like you "just know" but the rare examples of fact are usually tied up for you in a bow and announced. everyone knows SJSU trans player. or RIT. they are rare.
no, i get some sense you are now hunting for trans folks and given the actual prevalence, are probably a lot more WRONG and HURTFUL than ever right. to me it's a chance to make less feminine looking girls, miserable. it's as much enforcing an idea of femininity as actually about trans. because short of them saying "it's me," how do you know?
i mean, all due respect, we don't run with birth certificates pinned to our unis.
and that's not getting into the whole fake "voter ID" thing where you pretend you're protecting women over 10 people in all of NCAA out of nearly 300,000. the vast majority of NCAA women jocks never see a trans competitor. it's theoretical for most of them. it's not squeezing kids out of NCAA.
it at most slightly alters standings in meets by 1 person. and the irony of that is the people who chuckle about "participation trophies" on every other notion of how to reward sports, suddenly think their kid is owed their place or medal.
Far too much time on your hands. Definitely retired and nothing else going on. Sad
yeah, y'all are a real sweetheart bunch of morality police. nothing to worry about letting you set (religious) moral standards for how sports get done and we run this country.
every single one of you i talk to, if you push back, turns into jerks.
this is religious bullying dressed up as being something nice. you don't like trans folks. you are obviously prone to bullying. so we have to put up a bunch of nasty anti-trans laws from you dear sweethearts, hiding behind your kids who play sports, because joey-became-joanna, running some completely other event in another meet in another state, is the reason your 10th place kid didn't medal somehow.
I don't know where you live, but in my community there are no "recreational leagues" for 12-17 yr old kids. Every recreational league is either for under-12 or 18 & over, and not kid between age 12 and 17 is allowed to play in any of them. I think most kids from age 12 to 17 play sports on their schools' teams and therefore there is not enough demand for any recreational sports.
So does that mean no sports for trans girls from age 12 to 17? They can still play pickup games on the playground. But is that it?
They can play on the appropriate school team corresponding to their biology like everyone else
it's not 1950 anymore. the gays and trans kids are not 100 yards into their closets. the black and hispanic kids aren't at the segregated school. we aren't just starting a women's team.
to me this is an emerging issue NOW because gays are starting to have rights. when they start to have rights, more will come out as themselves. when more come out as themselves, you have to figure out a way to bring them into your little universe of sports.
i have said this 20 times. the interim answer is a 3rd category. school sports should be inclusive where it can be. it is disrespectful of their dignity and choice to make trans kids run as their old gender. it is not yet popular enough in some states to have trans kids as their new gender.
the obvious answer, to me, is a 3rd open category, which could also bring in wheelchair, paralympics, special olympics, gay, rebellious, or other kids who struggle to make their varsity but want varsity meets. and, yes, a gay kid can run their gender if they want, and some elite athletes might. but others might like a safer space.
to me we leave a chunk of kids out of HS sports, and have done for the 60-odd years of your outdated 2 box concept. my state has started to allow wheelchair events. so we can quit pretending it's just 2 events, since it's starting to be 3 for them when entered. so why not expand box 3 to deal with this issue while the right wing grows up.
i dunno it's this weird thing where gay people can have sex and marry but their books can't be in some libraries and they might not get to play sports depending how they live. that's not logically consistent, and going back to 2 boxes is a few decades stale.
i mean, last time we tinkered with the boxes black folks couldn't vote in the south.
I don't like trans women in women's sports, but I wonder about the legal basis for his order.
I also don’t like trans women in women’s sports, but I’m tired of the fed forcing things on states by tying federal funding to doing something mostly unrelated to the funding.
i could go into some long winded thing about this is anti-democratic, the states who allow it exercised their democracy, which he is overriding.
but where it gets dishonest and obscene is threatening federal school funding SAME TIME you are torching the DoE. like i don't think the agency should even exist but while i allow it to exist a second more, let me use it to undermine state power over education.
they will then reframe it as civil rights, title IX, except meanwhile they are tearing down the whole college harassment/rape reporting apparatus, and ignoring claims of sexist pay practices. we care so much about women, right?
the guy saying let them play JV at least has a speck of empathy. anyone downvoting 3 categories while moaning about trans people being in the girls box is a fake. they aren't "protecting jane," they want the trans kids gone. if you gave any crap about the other kid you'd want them to land "someplace."
Many people nowadays intimately know, love and care about someone - or several people - who've adopted a trans gender identity without buying into the ridiculous notion that due to the combined powers of wishful thinking, drug-taking, surgeries, cosmetic procedures, grooming, costuming, playacting, alterating of records, fudging, fibbing and outright lying, they've somehow turned into the opposite sex.
Rebekah's friends do not believe she will start having periods or one day could get pregnant because she is taking estrogen. That's not what they mean when they say "she is a girl."
I am not a mind reader like yourself, so I can only guess what they mean. But I think what they are trying to say is "We want to treat her as one of our own. And we want other people to do the same." At least that's consistent with their behaviors.
They probably don't share the regressive ideology that defines women as baby-making machines.
Two transgender girls who attend high school in New Hampshire challenged the Trump administration’s recent executive order banning transgender girls and women from participating in girls’ sports, according to a court filing.
