ask the right question. Judge cops by a high standard, not the lowest possible one. Consider them to be trained professionals and evaluate their performance.

Yeah that's not true. For one thing "resisting arrest" implies they had probably cause to arrest him in the first place. I'm not sure what they would have arrested him based on the press release. Not leaving a public area that happened to be a crime scene? When I was in law school I went to a cocktail party at a friend's house. He lived in the college-y area. Our music was probably kind of loud but it was known that the local college beat cops had "noise complaints" on file. Cop shows up. Friend says we'll turn the music down. Instead of just citing him and leaving cop goes berserk and demands we all leave the house. I assume he expected to find a bunch of underage college kids drinking from red solo cups. Instead he found 25-35 year old law students dressed up drinking champagne. We decide not to escalate things so start to leave. Cop then tries to enter the premises without a search warrant. Friend says he doesn't consent to a search and turns to shut door. Cop tackles friend to ground and arrests him. Then cop starts screaming at the 10-12 of us standing on the public sidewalk to leave the area. At that point there was no way we're leaving. We had to bail our friend who was booked on "resisting arrest". Turns out cop broke friend's arm. He got a 5 figure settlement.

That's just ugly to see. I hate to see it happen to anyone, especially for virtually no reason. No other Western democratic country's police would do that for so little reason. Not surprising that it happened to a black American man. Also, not surprising that it happened to Fred Kerley, who is a very proud man with a chip on his shoulder, which usually helps him as an athlete but also you can see him not taking crap from anyone, as the video demonstrates. That in no way excuses the cops but it shed light on why it happened.

Dear Police of America,

If you want respect from the community maybe don't act like a bunch of thugs, and then lie about it like cowards?

This whole situation just reeks of police incompetence and cruelty. Poor Fred.

I'm just so tired of living in a country where police act like this and then whine and cry that no one respects them. The way police treat black people is horrible, and it doesn't stop there. I am from a town of mostly rich white people, and the police are a joke. They had a prostitution ring, and stole money and food from restaurants. They also not only refused to solve the one murder that occurred there in a century, they are actively withholding information from the family over it.

I’m not American so don’t fully understand the police / race dynamics. But from the video I don’t see anything to suggest this was motivated by racism from the cops.

American media states that we are to always allow black people to do whatever they want, whenever they want. Doesn't matter the situation, if they don't follow orders from cops they are supposed to be allowed to just be left alone and not face any consequences.

Anything counter to that is automatically racist, no matter how a black person behaves in a situation. It's the bigotry of no expectations, just allow black people to behave in ways that no other race tolerates because they just can't help themselves. If cops do something to them to stop them in any fashion then we're supposed to scream "racism" from the tops of our lungs.
