You don’t have to be qualified to be part of Trumps administration. Just have to like him or pretend to like him and he will give you a job.
There's some positions that don't really have a defined set of qualifications. It's not like being a general practitioner or a department manager at the mall. Imagine Mark Zuckerberg being told he couldn't be the CEO of Facebook after inventing it because he wasn't "qualified". Or Elon Musk being told he can't be CEO of SpaceX because he only has a bachelor's degree in physics.
And while I don't agree that RFK is the best fit, I find it odd that everyone Trump has picked is being held to such standards of "qualifications" yet when Obama or Biden picked people, nobody cared to question anything.
A strange double standard that people are using more and more these days when they don't like someone or they get emotionally invested in one side of something.
It is the job of journalists and the opposing party to question the picks qualifications and their motivations. I also recall MANY of Biden and Obama's picks being heavily scrutinized. Garland could not even get a Senate vote for SCOTUS and he was certainly more "qualified" than RFK Jr. Is for this job. So spare us the "it is so unfair to us poor republicans" BS.
For what Trump wants, RFK Jr is fully qualified. That is to be an agent of chaos and burn it down from the inside with no plan for building it back different, better, or at all.
What are his qualifications? Does he have any sort of education background or professional experience in health or medicine?
No.
There are many obvious reasons he is a bad pick. One that gets me is that he is such anti-vax and yet Trump played a big role in getting the COVID vaccine started. And was vaxxed himself. Maybe Trump forgot.
As with any government agency, HHS could use some fixing, but he is not qualified to do it. What makes anyone think he can manage an agency of that size (leaving aside the nature of the work)?
My hope is that Thune rallies the Senators and he is not confirmed.
I'm curious to hear what he says in his confirmation hearing. I would like to know if he has any understanding of how a drug or vaccine goes from conception to approval. Who does he think does the research and pays for it? Where does he think clinical trials are done? How does he think the data from clinical trials is evaluated? Based on his conspiracy theories, i'm guessing he cannot answer these questions.
At the state level, when RFKs are appointed into positions and try to act on their whims, we, in public health, unite and say "No, he's wrong" and either work with the person to educate them and bring them up to speed, or keep making it clear that they aren't scientifically backed and they get chased out of their position.

you are clearly not actually curious to hear what he has to say
if you were you would have sought out just that and would not be asking these questions
RFK Jr wrote a 492 page book on Anthony Fauci that included about 6 million scientific citations. you're not as serious a person as you think you are. the man is a walking encyclopedia.
"based on his conspiracies theories". more than anything this is what has upset me about the election; realizing about 40% of US citizens have been absolutely brainwashed by watching television.

About the only thing that I agree with him on is his stance that many of the foods on the shelves of stores are ultra-processed and shouldn't be. That said, is it really the role of the government to do something about that? Should the government really be regulating this?
Remember the uproar from the right when about 10 years ago Mayor Bloomberg tried to limit the sizes of sugary soft drinks that were sold in NYC? I believe that humongo soft drinks are ridiculous and really bad for overall health but is that really something that the government should be involved in monitoring?
One of the reasons ultra processed foods are cheaper is the farm bill. It inadvertently subsidizes corn (and soy), so the excess has to be used somewhere. Ends up in high fructose corn syrup. So rather than having a role in ‘regulating’, the farm bill should be updated to eliminate incentives that adversely affect population health.
The food industry operates the same way the tobacco industry did in the 70s-90s… make a toxic, addictive product, advertise like crazy (especially to children), and scream about “personal choice and liberty” when govt gets involved. My opinion on 64 oz soda buckets is “yes. They should be banned.” Similar to my opinion on seatbelt laws. Yes… it could be a “choice” not to buckle up, but some stupidity and recklessness are easy and necessary to eliminate.
You want to ban Big Gulps at 7-Eleven but I can still buy a pack of Marlboros there? When is RFK Jr going to end the tobacco industry in this country?

Is it a failure of nature, nurture, or (like usual) some of both when an adult (probably?) believes that the fact that someone wrote a book (and 492 pages, no less!) necessarily means that they know ANY-THING ???
He's a better fit for the job than all those liberal DEI hires out there, I can guarantee you that.
I guess time will tell when we look back and wonder whether choosing a cheese brained smackhead as head of the Department of Health was a good idea or not.
