Question to all those who think every great African runner only got there thru doping. From Haile, Tergat, Kipchoge to Bekele to Kiptum and Kipyegon, all doping.
Are the only US runners on drugs the ones who got caught, like Shelby? All others are clean and above suspicion?
Are all NBA and NFL and baseball players in the US on drugs? All the greatest of the greats?
Doesnt everyone want to win? Isnt the desire to cheat to get to the top the same?
im of two minds with Kipchoge: I’m sure he was doping to a point. I think, as much as I hate to say it, that to run these types of times in this day and age you have to have “help”. How much and what kind, I don’t know.
but he was the perfect ambassador for Nike and World Athletics. Marathining NEEDED a person that the media could use to spearhead this era of mass marathon participation and Kipchoge was the perfect person for it. There a ton of non-runners that I know who know who he is. The marketing worked. And it only benefits our sport.
how often have we come to this forum over the last 20 years and started “how to make track popular again” threads? WA and Nike had the money and the time to get the first person outside of Bolt, in the last 24 years, to transcend the sport. A he has been a very good figurehead to do so.
do I think Kipchoge and bolt are clean? No, I don’t. But as much as I love all the drug busts we are seeing these days, and as much as I desperately would love to have a clean sport, I don’t want to see them publicly busted. It is a total contradiction, I know, but it would devastate the sport on an elite level. Mind you, your average 4 hour marathoner would never care and probably never know, but still.
I liked Kipchoge until he became Nike’s science experiment. The sub 2 thing was so contrived. From the springy shoes to whatever Kipchoge was taking, it was all about breaking 2 by ANY means possible. They didn’t care if it was legit. They just wanted that headline and the $ that would follow as people flocked to buy those shoes and merch.
It reminded me of baseball’s steroids era when the sport’s officials looked the other way while obvious dopers broke hallowed home run records. Officials allowed the doping to happen because the home run chase was exciting the fans and it was good for attendance and ratings. They didn’t care HOW the records got broken. They just wanted the attention and $.
WADA's head need to be axed!!!!!!!!! Travis takes over but Travis is American and protecting the American athletes so I say Armstrong, me and you Coevett take over the reigns!!!!
How did the job interview with the AIU go? Let me know if you want me to be a character reference.
I think EPO is a given at this point. But I think most people running sub 2:08 in the marathon have used EPO at some point. Same is true for women under like 2:18
There are some dumb questions the reporters are asking. Does he understand he can't win everytime? What do you say to the people who say, "I love you."

Tell me why you believe that EPO is a performance enhancer?
Do you not believe you have enough ted blood cells to achieve your true maximal oxygen uptake?

To answer your questions:
Galen Rupp and some other Oregon Project athletes were doping but it was generally through BS therapeutic use exemptions so their failed drug tests wouldn't mean a ban. It's hard to get away with doping in US athletics. Sprinters get popped all the time. I don't think many US athletes are straight up taking EPO, but an alarming number are abusing or defrauding the TUE system.
NBA and NFL aren't really about sports as much as entertainment. Yes, nearly all athletes on those leagues (especially NFL) are on drugs. Yes, all the greats were on drugs.

Is Rekrunner admitting here that he has some shady role working for World Athletics or something? Didn't he let slip once that he worked in Monaco?

It's a simple enough question. Why does it seem so hard for people to answer?

You have a tendency to invent and fall for your own conspiracies.
This is a reference to rojo's recent thread "Want to catch doper? The AIU is hiring ...". Khamis said "THIS JOB IS FOR ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". The applications requests three references, and he thought he could use you, Armstronglivs, and the brojos. I'm just making a generous offer here to be one in case he still needs a third.
I'd be surprised if I ever "let slip once that he worked in Monaco", as I've never worked there, nor been there on business. Maybe some troll or imposter said that. I did visit Monaco once about 30 years ago, and I gambled and lost a little money.
Maybe you should reach out to Michele Ferrari to explain
Good idea. Here's an interesting article "EPOwer or PlacEPO?" by Michele Ferrari, about the "myth attributed to EPO":
Michele Ferrari wrote:
Considering the "five-star doping substance" myth attributed to EPO by the media, anti-doping organizations and the stories of the athletes themselves, it is hard to believe that rhEPO actually has no effect on road cycling performances.
This study, original and well structured, strongly suggests that the possible effect of rhEPO on real road racing performances has been intensely OVERESTIMATED and EXPLOITED over the years, just like the majority of the so-called performance enhancing substances, whose effects have never really been demonstrated by independent studies (i.e. not directly involved in the Fight Against Doping™).
Kenya’s marathon great Eliud Kipchoge has been named UNESCO ambassador for sports, integrity and values a second straight year, adding another feather to his cap.
