1) To lose a pound of fat, you need to be negative 3500 calories. You didn't do that in one day, so either water weight or you took an extra big dump.
2) OF COURSE you should eat more than your wife and her female friend. At rest, MEN burn 12 calories per pound that they weigh (women burn 11). So, at 180 pounds, if you wanted to maintain that weight and you did nothing but sit on your ass all day, you'd need to consume 180 x 12 = 2160 calories. If you want to lose a pound of FAT a week, you need a 500 calorie deficit per day, so 2160 - 500 = 1660. As you lose weight, you need to recalculate. IF you are not completely sedendary, you get to add calories. MOST people will burn ~300 calories just doing basic chores, etc. during the day, and then, of course you get to count ~100 calories per mile you run if you are still running these days. This math is just a starting point. If you are losing too much weight (typically you'll lose a decent amount of water weight in the first week of a diet program), you can always add calories. Conversely, if you not losing weight, either lower the calories, recalculate the calories as you may have it wrong, or up your activity level.
this is mostly true tho i have had clients who have lost 1-2 pounds in one day as there metabolism was working super fast and there calories burned super fast
Usually not that. When we restrict our calories, by default we are restricting carbs, and carbs make us retain water. If you ever want to have one of the biggest pees in your life (and who doesn't?), go from a typical American diet to Keto/Atkins/South Beach/caveman or any other carb restricting diet, and you will pee like a banshee for at least a couple days...and lose a truckload of weight as a result.

Wow I didn’t know peeing made you lose weight as pee doesn’t weigh a ton like poop does

Fagpole, what do you do these days to stay fit and lean?

Water weighs a lot. You can easily pee out more weight in a day than the other thing you mentioned.
Rojo how is your diet going as it’s been almost one week since day one of torn diet and we haven’t heard from you as we thought we would hear from you by now
i hope your diet is going well as that’s how you’ll lose weight as you said you wanted to lose weight as a diet is best way do so
please let us know about you as you haven’t as we’re interested
This looks like keto, but there are so many different versions. I recommend Eric C. Westman's version, "prescription-strength keto," he's an MD. Plus, he did his undergraduate at Stanford, so he's very intelligent.
It's too bad you just missed out on a taking an amazing class online (for $10!) "Start Keto Right,"
They offered nightly Zoom sessions for support/questions, and a private facebook group where their nutritionists answered questions. 1,500 people signed up, it was sold out. I don't think they're ever going to offer this class again though. The follow-up class online is $167.
If you missed the class, you can just read the book, "End Your Carb Confusion" by Eric C. Westman, MD and Amy Burger. You'll get the general idea, but you won't have the support.
Oh, and everyone is right about the "peeing like a racehorse" when you cut carbs/go from eating the standard American diet to low-carb eating; at least that was my experience!
There are some grifters in the low-carb community, but Dr. Eric Westman is not one of them. I recommend *not* following Annette Bosworth, M.D. (she goes by "Dr. Boz" online), as she's wrong about some of her keto theories, fyi.
Plus, the fact that she was convicted of multiple felonies should be a red flag that she would do anything for $.

I agree that peeing can lose weight as pee can weigh a ton when it’s a lot but be careful as pee has electrolytes as when you pee a ton your body loose a ton of electrolytes as please replace them
My wife's friend recently started some sort of fitness regime that involves a special diet and exercise. She raved about it and gave us her specially formulated food plan.
We agreed to try it out. I like it as I don't like having to think about what I want to cook. Each week, it gives you a few options for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
We started yesterday. I must say it's been a big success as I lost 2 pounds on day 1.
The issue is halfway through the day I realized I was thinking a lot about food. Then it hit me, "Why would I eat the same amount as my wife and her friend? I weigh 50% more than them."
The meal plan was designed for someone who is small, ten years younger and probably weights 120. I am over 180. So to make it right for me, should I just up it by 50%? Or does it not work like that? If not, what are my options other than paying for the detailed meal plan for myself?
By my math, that's only 300 calories. I just added up the entire day and it comes to just under 1000 calories. Oh wait, I forgot the 170 calorie protein shake. So just under 1200 calories.
No wonder I'm hungry.
Why do people insist on overcomplicating this? You know how much you've been eating to maintain your current weight. Eat less than that without decreasing your activity level and you will lose weight.

It can be hard as increasing energy can be too hard and decreasing eating food can be too hard
as diet is hard as rojo ain't about hard as effort is not nap as TV watching must win against fat gut as even one day was AMAZING amount of success as this more success than rest of entire life as congratulations for one INCREDIBLE day of diet

Gee, how come nobody ever thought of this before? This advice will solve the obesity crisis!

I too would like an update. Rojo, you've said you would like to run a sub-3 hour marathon and lose weight (not necessarily in that order). I wish you success in both endeavors. I think running a couple miles every other day and adopting a very low-carb diet consisting of unprocessed foods such as meat and eggs would be a great start. I suggest you avoid industrial seed oils, which are highly processed. I believe canola oil was originally used as engine lubricant before someone got the idea that all of us should be eating it.
Rojo, if you are serious about losing weight, I highly recommend you sign up for coaching from this guy. If you follow his advice, you are highly likely to reach your weight loss goals.
