What’s most amazing about Jakob is his consistency. Race after race after race he produces at the highest level. “Normal” elites are up and down. They get physically and mentally exhausted. They just don’t have it some days. Not Jakob. For him a disastrous day is a 3:28 after going out in 54. Jakob just bounces back, wins 5000 gold in a jog. Destroys Hocker on Thursday, rolls out 2 days later and shatters one of the most legendary world records.

If Jakob breaks the 1500m WR at Zurich , I would rather honestly see Jakob do the 5k final in the Diamond league final and go for the WR there instead of the 1500m, which we likely know the result of that if he break the WR. Also would help an American out for that possible 1500m bye 😉

Why would it be, necessarily? Jakob hasn’t been able to get it but he’s significantly better at 3k. You’ve got Lagat at 3:26.34, Kiprop and Jakob at 3:26.6/3:26.7, 3 other guys hitting 3:27.65-3:27.80 with fast last laps in Paris. At 3k Jakob is now 3.12 faster than a legendary Komen record. I’m not ready to proclaim 7:17.55 is stronger than 3:26.00 but it could be. Both are better than 12:35.36, for sure.

NO! 1500 first, 1mile next, then 5000.

Didn't to seem to make that much of a difference for the rest of the field. Kejelcha was 3rd in 7:28 and no one else under 7:30

In addition to the WR (a NR for Norway), there were four additional NRs -- Ethiopia, Canada, South Africa and the Netherlands, going down to 11th place out of 15. So, not such poor running after all.

you mean like winning the olympic 1500m? or finishing second in two WC 1500ms? or winning two 5K WCs and one olympic 5k?

Name another runner around who has done that well in the 1500m - Kerr hasn't, Hocker hasn't, Wightman hasn't, Cheryoiut hasn't. ElG wouldn't be winning WCs every year if all this talent was around in his time.

Most of them went out at about 60s/lap pace. I'm not talking about the Ethiopians, I meant Ahmed, Fisher, Wildschutt, Kwemoi etc all had bad races
