Olympian? Yes, but a low quality one. Its hard to hold respect to the Olympian title for O’Keeffe after lining up with what looked to be a severe injury, dropping out after a pitiful effort, and then lying about the severity of the injury. There was an alternate available for this exact situation who would have at least finished the race and represented the country rather than wasting a spot for selfish reasons.
I hope nothing but healing for O’Keeffe and have enjoyed watching her journey as a runner. She most likely has some underlying issues that need to be addressed, but I would love to see her overcome them and make a big comeback! However, she made a big mistake in the way she handled the Olympic marathon which is unfortunately something that can’t be taken back.
