Based on the RW article, the fact her previous agent locked her into a 180 day right-of-refusal, instead of 90 days, seemed to indicate the agent may not have been putting the athlete’s best interests first.
Valby is rather attractive. The fact that she can run too is nice I guess.
11 th in the Olympics is not 11 th in the world. I wish her the best, but if she is going to get better, she is going to have to face the facts.

BIt isn't? Is 3rd place 3rd in the world? How about 2nd place basketball team? Are they 2nd in the world? The Olympics are the championships of the world. Each country gets 3 individuals and 1 team. Those are the rules whether you like them or not. I coach high school track and XC. I had the 4 best 3200 guys this spring in the conference but can only enter 2. The kid who finished 3rd was 3rd in the conference. That is how things work. Maybe the US could have entered 2 basketball teams that would have finished 1-2 but that isn't allowed.
Does anyone really think Hassan is only the 20th best 10000 runner in the world?

He was running >15:30 5k’s a couple of years ago, then seemed to have gone to Japan to start running mega-mileage, and recently dropped a sub-2:18 marathon. This gives a flavor of basically what he does:
What is the likelihood of an ex-collegiate female, that can currently break 15:30, running a sub-2:18 in two-three years, by following this (what appears to be a relatively simple) pattern?

Is this as fun as spending several hours per week on an Arc Trainer?:
24 yr-old Yuka Suzuki might do similar type of training in Japan. She set a 2:24:02 PB on the warm hilly course in Paris for 6th place. She was running 32min for the 10000m, and 15:30 for the 5000m two years ago.

A place in an event says where you came in that event on that day; it may be indicative in a world championship but isn't a definitive measure of where you rank in the world.

Not according to 90% of the world population. Aske them and they will tell you that the Olympics are the metric used to determine who's best in the world. It always has been. Fisher is 3rd best in 5k and 10k this year. The Superbowl champ in football is the best even if they lost twice during the season to the same team. The MLB champ is the best even if they lost a dozen times to the same team that year. Centro was the best 1500 guy one year. No reason to hold the Olympics if they don't mean anything.

That is true. But she is the fastest American in history. What ever happened to that teen phenom, Tuohy? She is washed up but Valby will be an Olympian forever.

The Olympics mean something, but it could be anything depending on the level of interest or understanding someone has and it isn't necessarily what you think it is - or that it is correct.

What a sad man. The continual discounting of a young runner who has already achieved more than most runners will ever achieve in a lifetime speaks to your rather miserable way of viewing life.
