Flagpole doesn't care about Hocker's religion. Fine. Hocker doesn't care about Flagpole's opinion. The world doesn't revolve around either. Deal with each other. Coexist.
Um...me not caring about his religion IS coexisting. It WOULDN'T be if I cared about his religion (because I am a non-believer). I already said, believe what you want...THAT is coexisting.
Religion is silly, but as long as someone uses their religion for good or at least for neutral purposes, fine by me...believe what you want.
I'm interested in him as a track athlete, and could not care less about his views really on anything outside the sport.
Flagpole, you do love the opinions of ANY athlete or celebrity that align with you however. You are a confused old man full of contradictions.
INCORRECT! People who are famous for things other than political analysis need to not comment on political things. I don't want to hear liberal or conservative stuff come from actors or companies. They need to shut it.

Clearly you don't understand the nature of "Sport" or "Athletics", most likely because you're not an "athlete" or a true "sportsman". That's not meant to be an insult, just a brief observation. The Olympics represent more than competition, and the athletes represent more than just being athletic. Olympians are the best athletes in the world, and each has a life story which defines who they are and WHY they've become the best athletes in the world. I personally am a huge track and field fan and have participated in track and field and enjoy hearing these life stories and about the journey these athletes have taken to achieve this amazing accomplishment to be one of the best athletes on the planet. I recommend you watch 16 Days of Glory-1985 by Bud Greenspan. Maybe it will give you some perspective that being an athlete or sportsman is not just about winning and losing, but also the journey and process.
Why do you need to be intolerant and disrespectful?
I don't rip on people for their beliefs or lack thereof.
You live on a planet where more than 84% of the global population subscribe to some form of religious belief.
So this means, you are in the minority in your existence, and have a disrespectful and demeaning view toward the majority of people you interact with.
That's a sad existence.
Dude in Australia at the latest census, more than 50% of the population identified as atheist or agnostic.
If the number really is 84% worldwide though, that does not mean those people are right. That's why it's called a belief, or faith - believing (or having faith) in something you can't prove.

Enjoy the Games...I am!
Your ramble has nothing to do with anything I said.
A very thoughtful, expansive, and generous interpretation. But sometimes a smoke is just a cigar. What we have is what we see, and we can only take it at face value. Problem with god statements is that the word has no definition or description so has no meaning. Please correct me on this.
Is every fkn runner in the US a Jesus freak? It's so lame and uninteresting and off-putting to hear about religion during conversations on sport. It's like crediting trump or biden for your victory in post race content. Boring
Bunch of bigots in this thread. Hocker is Catholic and he respects God. Deal with it. Some of you are atheist and we have to deal with hundreds of threads and thousands of your bigoted posts being spewed every day.
FWIW, when people thank God for their win, they don't think God chose them over the other people. They are thanking God for the ability to toe the line, for all of the good things in their life that have put them there on that day. It is a sign of respect.

Religion is a choice. You believe in something that no one has seen or heard because you cannot understand science or cannot accept what is not known yet. It is the same as Astrology, or even believing in the "fairy at the bottom of the garden'. When I said that to a religious nut, he asked 'what has the fairy done for you'?. I said "same as what 'your' particular god has done for you...nothing".
Atheists don't tell you they are atheists, just baffled by why in modern existence, people still cling to what legitimately would have been an answer to people 1,000's of years ago.
Science and proving what we know as time went on, has never changed...yet religion constantly adapts to what we now know, or will in future...time frames change, locations change, creation changes...just to stay legitimate. Give it up already.
BTW, religion is more prevalent in 3rd world and developing countries due to the colonisation use of religion for power, left it there for hope for those poor people to cling on to.

Number is affected by all those ignorant in poor countries clinging to hope
