Geez, Oregon is a world class destination, unless you are a dweeb.
Mckenzie River has a beautiful trail, waterfalls, hot springs, the Blue Pool. So much to see and do, trails all over besides the Mckenzie. Nearby mountains that are breathtaking.
The wine country is world class, plenty of wine tasting nearby.
The coast is the the most beautiful in the country and it is all open to the public, all 380 miles.
Problem is runners are boring people and aren't willing to explore. And, track meets are boring to watch. That is the real problem with the meets there. I would much rather go out and explore than go watch some scrawny dude run, and I live in Oregon and i'v been a runner for 50 years. But, much more to life than being a spectator.
Okay, maybe you'd rather be out exploring instead of watching some scrawny dude run, etc. But the thread here isn't really about you. It's about where you'd find the most people who are interested in watching scrawny dudes run.
well, the meet is not 24 hours per day, lot's to do if you are so inclined during the times when no scrawny dudes are running.

Problem is you live nearby and don't have to try to get a hotel I mean motel in Eugene.

Really Rojo this is the comment you chose to belittle.
You had a great opportunity to explain the beauty and mysterys of competitive running.
There’s not a facility in the United States that compares with Hayward Stadium. In my opinion they need to make it an experience. They’re working too hard allowing you not to park and forcing you to sit in the 2nd level when the bottom level is damn near empty.
The destruction of the old Hayward Field left a bad feeling for long time track fans A creative idea by Tinker Hatfield to save the old stadium into a modern building without destroying it was rejected by Nike. The stadium lease with the University of Oregon has never been disclosed.Hayward Field with a few community outreach events is closed to the public. It was not that way till the 1980s.Kenny Moore referred to these plans as”a monstrosity” at a Eugene City Council hearing. Neta Prefontaine lamented what was to become..Phil Knight referred to the decision to detonate as perhaps being” the most hated man in Eugene” in a Register Guard interview.
Track Town USA starting as an ideal to the sport is a copyright with perhaps a lot of money.Travel Oregon on message refers to the beauty of Oregon and the greatness of the sport for several television presentations while the empty half full stadium says something else.
I wish the other shoe companies would contribute to remodeling historical stadiums and transfer the money going into Eugene too other cities fault Nike and USTAff for the monopoly almost mafioso.
After the dreadful attendance at NCAAs this past weekend, Eugene can no longer call itself TrackTown USA. It’s time to stop hosting NCAAs and USAs there every year. Austin was a way better atmosphere for NCAAs last year—the stands were packed for both the men’s and women’s finals. The attendance in Eugene was embarrassing and made the national championships feel like a low-key dual meet.
What were the attendance #'s in Texas & how does 9.5k/day hold up to what the meet pulled at the old Hayward Field? The stadium is awesome but it's just way too big now for anything outside of a global championship. Too big for Pre. Too big for NCAAs. The old stadium would've been rocking with 9.5k each day. I don't get taking shots at the attendance when you're at least getting some casual fans in a place like Oregon.
Eugene City offices always halve the stated numbers given by Nike. From youtube it looks like 1/3 full on the west stands the 1st 2 days, 2/3 full on final days, east/south stands empty. Guessing 10,000 for 4 days for NCs 2024?
The only problem with Eugene is they need to expand the airport. Hotels etc will take care of themselves.
It is truly a world class destination that offers far more than just T&F.
The problem is that unless you get a good connection, driving to Eugene is almost as fast as sitting through a layover at PDX and flying down.
It is actually less than 2 hours from Portland in a car (assuming no traffic jams), so unless you get a direct flight, driving might be faster (and then you have the car in Eugene if you want to drive out to Spencer Butte or the Oregon Coast or Mt. Pigsah or wherever...
I am a local, so I feel bad for folks who have to fly out here, but once you are here, assuming you are a runner, there is a lot you can do! Just not dance clubs. :)

yeah. there should be a 10 year rotation on pee hole college towns.

Nike: this is just standard practice for the global free market guys.
Hayward Field: To my eyes I find a Word Championship at a venue that looks like a high school track on steroids to be the real embarrassment.
In the spirit of full transparency you should have included that western Oregon now has structural engineering requirements resembling those along the San Andreas Fault. Trying to upgrade the existing structure was financially impossible.
The old stands were a possible death trap. Lots of Eugene residents are in denial of that.

There are VERY few connections from the east coast that route through PDX to EUG currently. The vast majority go through Denver, SLC, Seattle, San Francisco or Las Vegas.
Current 10-day forecast for Austin: Highs in the mid-90's every day, dewpoints in the 70s every day, chance of meet-delaying thunderstorms most days. No thank you.
Also, I think most athletes and spectators could give a crap which location has the better dance clubs.
I would think that they couldn't give a crap but what do I know? Maybe they want to go to tha club.
