HE IS NOT A MILER!!!!!!!!!!! HE IS AN 800 RUNNER!!!!!
NOT EVERYONE NEEDS TO MOVE UP AN EVENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Agreed. Would be cool to see him run a couple miles like Donovan Brazier, but come on, this guy has run 47.6 in the open 400 as a freshman. How many pro milers can even do that?
His best event is not the mile, it's quite clear he should stick with the 800 for the foreseeable future.
His lack of XC results is exactly why I think this kid's family knows what they are doing. He was a freshman and there's no rush to jump up in mileage too quick. I would imagine he will run XC this year again, but not put too much into it. His school moves from 5A to 6A next year as well, which puts them right in there with SL Carroll.
I would love to see him run a mile or two, but again, I figure they will go slowly. There's no reason to make the jump. He's proven what he can do.
This kid is a 400/800 runner. Shut up about him being a mile/XC guy. He runs XC as a training program. That's it. Nothing more.

I know LetsRun is predominantly full of distance fans who consider the 1500 the marquee event, but it's still hilarious to see so many people immediately jump to calling this kid the next great miler lmao
He's 15yo running 47.6 in the open 4! There will be plenty of time to build him up to serious mileage later, he should stay a 400/800 guy for now

Just saw the last 200 of his race on IG and damn he looked smooth. Hard to believe from a high school freshman. Could have gone much faster from what I saw.
Early Lutkenhaus threads are fun reads. You can see the disbelief but plenty were right on the money. Many discuss moving up to the mile as per usual
The miler thing is amusing. The guy ran 46.3 last spring in a double, after running a 1:47 flat earlier in the afternoon. He also ran low 45 in a relay split. In other words, he is as fast as any elite 800 guy ever ... so he is supposed move UP in distance?

Amazing but he still looks old for his age and more physically developed than his peers. It is certain that he will improve albeit at a slower rate and perhaps even flirt with the HS record at some point down the road. Still, it is difficult to extrapolate that he will be a medal contender in his 20s.
Dude he’s a medal threat at 17.
