Other considerations:
-There is a nice break between the 1,500F and 5,000R1 — 3 days. He'll have no issue with R1, so he might consider the toll from the 1,500 not a huge deal. And then he gets 3 more days off.
-The biggest factor to me will be how he performs in the back-to-back meets of the LA Grand Prix (5,000) and Prefontaine Classic (Mile). If he crushes it in the LA Grand Prix and he goes under 13 significantly that will maybe lean your direction. If he finishes top 5 in a stacked Pre Mile and runs 3:47 or faster, it'll lean him the other direction (though he'll have flexibility to double even if the 1500 is his focus). If he does neither and runs in line with his current PBs, anticipate the double.
Currently (4/30), only Jakob, Yared & Josh are confirmed for the Bowerman Mile.
Very questionable Ben/coach would want Cooper & Cole to run any race at all just a week removed from an all-out 5k. Plus, both have the 1500 Oly Q so no need to race another 1500/mile prior to the Trials.
Agree that the LA Grand Prix 5k will be a contributing factor in determining whether Cooper doubles at the Trials or skips the 1500 to focus on the 5k.
We know Cole will enter both events at the Trials but focus on the 1500, only racing the 5k if he doesn't make the 1500 team or simply wants to race the 5k for training purposes.
