I stand corrected. He is indeed not on the entry list. I thought I remembered reading him announcing he would be competing there, though maybe my brain just made that up.

I unfortunately don't have the time to go through the entries for the other non-HS events right now. Does anyone see or know of a collegiate athlete competing? If there are none, Englehardt shouldn't be penalized at all for competing if I'm reading the bylaws correctly.

Yes it does matter. If they are in uniform it would be the kind of violation we are talking about. The other "rule" they would have to try and avoid with her would be the fact that they offer HS divisions and she isn't in that. Maybe they can say it's two different meets? HS meet early and Pro meet late.

And how is it possible that you have made so many posts in this thread claiming to know what you're talking about and you haven't even bothered to look at the meet schedule? The high school races and the professional races are interspersed. It's not high school runners early and professional runners late.

Again yes there was college athletes entered in the races later year and this year. It doesn’t have to be her race , just three meet entirely.

I still cannot understand why such a rule even exists? Can someone eloborate? One would think the CIF would want its athletes to compete against the best, representing their member institutions/state on a national stage (not to mention generating exposure and scholarship opportunities for the student athlete). The NCAA seemingly has no problem allowing its athletes to compete “up” against professionals and unattached athletes.

This is HS , that’s why she’s giving up the remaining of her HS eligibility for at least this outdoor season. She has bigger and better things to do then win a state title.

I don't think she is giving up the rest of the season. She may be required to skip the next two of her high school's meets, but that isn't much of a problem. According to Athletic.net the next two meets would be a cluster meet with Santa Barbara HS and Oxnard HS, and the Simi Valley Invitational. I think she could still compete in the Asuza Meet of Champions which starts the day after the Simi Valley Invitational does.

If she runs a second race in violation of the rules, then she would lose eligibility (for the next 365 days in all sports, not just this season)

My guess is someone got the bright idea that we need to "protect" high school sports. I agree that the rule is silly and I'd also like to hear a good explanation of why it exists

The CIF is dying like the NCAA but that’s not the point. The need to Change the rule or she should be treated like everyone else in CIF.

From what I know CIF SS won’t make exceptions. I wouldn’t be surprised if Sadie is a no show for Sound Running

No, it's not. 99.9% of California high school athletes compete in the CIF. That's the opposite of dying.

I just looked at the bylaws again. I think I made a mistake in my interpretation as I assumed the penalties defined in section 600 (outside competition) applied to violation of 215 (intercollegiate competition). That does not appear to be the case and instead the penalty is loss of eligibility in that particular sport for the rest of high school. I was overly optimistic that the penalty would only be two meets. I've copied the relevant section below:

215. INTERCOLLEGIATE PARTICIPATION
A student who participates in an intercollegiate athletic contest prior to the completion of his/her eight (8) consecutive
semesters of high school eligibility shall be ineligible for high school participation in that sport for the duration of the student’s high school enrollment. (See also Bylaws 600.G and 702. and corresponding Q&A’s.)

Now if no athletes competing at The TEN represent a college, Engelhardt will only be violating section 600 (two meet ban).

Please name the college athletes that competed for their college last year. I looked at the results and couldn't find any but maybe you have a better eye for that kind of thing then me.

I wasn't trying to pretend that I know what I'm talking about, sorry if it came off that way. We had someone that was just so certain that she would lose her CIF eligibility but I just don't see it as fact yet. Just trying to get some rules clarification. Also I am sure they can still change the meet schedule for a meet that hasn't happened yet.
