Not saying had she gone to NAU she would be a top5 runner but a 15:20 runner taking 53rd! If she regresses like dudek has, she’ll regret it while designing nextgen quantum computer algorithms making a 7 digit salary.
72% of the current class at Stanford submitted test scores. It is hilarious to claim that test scores don't indicate success. Funny that the highly selective schools choose students with high test scores. May as well choose the lowest test scores. Do you want your surgeon to have had a 16 on his ACT or a 36? How about the engineer who designed the landing gear on your the jet that you are flying on? Do you really believe that if you look at lifetime salaries of people that you won't see a direct correlation to test scores? You claim no correlation as in scores of 15 earn on average the same as scores of 25 or 35?
It is hilarious that someone said and i quote " Testing well is not always the true litmus of how you will do in college or life." and you extrapolate that they said test scores don't indicate success. I would assume they mean NOT ALWAYS as they said and in college and life as a generality. Obviously no one wants a sub par surgeon, that's a silly jump to make. Very smart people can make great money and very smart people can sometimes not test very well for a handful of reasons. Are you dyslexic, do you have test anxiety, are you extremely gifted in the arts, but struggle with math? Tests are one marker of intelligence and yes can show an aptitude for school but it's not the only way to evaluate ones future success or abilities.
I see that now. I didn't realize she came in that fast.
That shouldn’t change your answer. If the two recruits Kiki Vaughn and Makenzie McRae wanted a CU/Stanford education and got there because of running, then they are doing great (and it’s free). But elite recruits need elite coaching (NAU has), elite training facilities (best in the nation probably?), elite team members to push you to your best (NAU has). And they’ll get a great education (for free) at the same time.
people choose to go to sub-standard academic schools everyday for a variety of reason.. I am sure a few schools offered these people scholarships.
Please define "sub-standard" academic schools. What other schools are considered "sub-standard"? I'm assuming you're an Ivy league elitist and can shine some light on this.
Do you recommend every kid pick the very cheapest school then? You are merely one person. We have data regarding salaries of millions of employees and their respective colleges.
college is essentially a joke…you end up carving your career path regardless of where you go or how much your tuition is.
A smaller, less academically competitive school is the perfect fit for many
So tired of every NAU thread getting derailed by academic snobs.
Maybe not everyone can afford CU and live in Boulder. Tuition is high, rent is ridiculous I have a friend who's child pays over $1,800/mo for their room in a 4 bedroom apartment in Boulder, 1/2 her friends leave to go study abroad while paying rent in their absence and also in country. etc etc. Bottom line parents have $
your friend is getting ripped off or has an apartment with tons of amenities. My daughter pays $1800 for a two bedroom apartment about 1 mile from campus.

What type of attitude is that? Of course we should care about academics and resultant salaries of graduates of every school. That would be like having the fastest woman go somewhere like Grand Canyon University and having you say nobody cares about how bad their distance program is. Everything should be factored in when making a college decision. But too many people here operate on emotion which is why they get upset when people present facts that contradict their opinions. NAU is the best distance program in the country but the academics are terrible. Nobody outside of the distance running community has even heard of the school. Those things should be considered before sending your state champ kid there who ends up as the 15th runner on the team.
These are elite recruits. What you’re saying is I’m not going to the Mayo Clinic (arguably the NAU of Xc) because the cafe isn’t as good as your local rundown hospital!
It's not as if this would apply to many recruits. Beyond being obvious, on the boys side is so steep only a small handful of HS recruits actually have a chance of getting invited let alone getting scholarship money. Remember, only 11.8 full scholarships spread among the entire mens team. You either need to be a Young or Hasty to get $. The girls get 18 so this thread may be more relevant for HS gals.
NCAA allows a maximum of 12.6 scholarships for Men's Track & Field / Cross Country.

Why don’t you research where the CEO of Microsoft went to school? I’d rather be like him.
