I usually try not to dumb things down so much as to say "doping doesn't work". For example, I don't doubt steroids work for women in events requiring muscular strength.
What I have said about EPO:
- EPO doesn't seem to have made non-African men significantly faster in distance running than athletes from the pre-EPO era of the 1980s
- I believe high altitude training works
- Lance Armstrong is a big believer in EPO as a rocket fuel
- Maybe EPO works for 3-week long cycling tours, especially in the third week
- However, there are two meta-studies which concluded that the significance of EPO effect for cycling in EPO and blood doping studies has been over-estimated; maybe better studies are needed

You won't ever understand, rekrunner, whether you drive a Honda or a Hyundai. There is no magic potion, whether Epo for the TdF or Nandro for women. Basic Biology, look it up. You obviously have never heard of thermoRegulation!

Leave it to Rojo to believe an admitted liar. EPO stays in urine for DAYS not HOURS. Half life deals tells you how long it takes to be reduced by half and 4 hours is the bare minimum. This has ZERO to do with how long it's detectable in urine. I really don't understand why idiots believe everything someone says and then go running to tell others how stupid they are for believing it.

Armstrong has been tested 500 times. He is admitted EPO user. If he was that wrong about EPO being caught by a urine test in those conditions he would have failed hundreds of tests.
People give some credence to Armstrong here because he actually lived that world for a decade. It is more likely you are wrong about what the urine test would flag as a positive test. Armstrong is pretty familiar with what the tests are and how to beat them.

It's popular to believe the limitation is my ability to understand. I looked up basic biology and thermo-regulation. These are just two components in my performance model.
But enough about me. This thread seems to be about the ability to detect EPO in urine and pass tests in the early 2000s.
Does anyone think that some elite HSers might be doping as well. Or even collegiate athletes. At what level of running does drug testing become frequent enough to be a concern to dopers?
A college scholarship is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. A pro deal is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. So yes, there is likely dopers at the high school and collegiate levels. It’s always about the money.
No thats not how epo works. Its not like cocaine where you sniff it and bam. Taking it 4 hours before a race does nothing. You need to understand the lifecycle of a red blood cell. New rbc's dont start to form until about a week after taking your first dose of epo. I dont make the rules. The baton exchange with the kidneys and bone marrow do.
Norwegian athletes have reported being tested even in the middle of the night, so even micro dosing should be detectable, don’t you think..?
How does that work? You'd have to report to an authority every location you ever go, and wouldn't be able to go hiking for example or even work your job delivering pizzas.
In the US at least, you need to report where you will be for a 1-hour window every day, which I think is not really tolerable already (wouldn't put up with that intrusion for any normal job), but that gives you 23 hours to not have to report every single place you visit in your day. That also gives dopers 23 hours for dope to diminish to below detectable levels if they know the amount to take right after the 1-hour window ends.
As others have noted doing the math is not just doing minus 4 hours, that only takes you to half the concentration. You'd need to know the dose, detection limit, etc.

I knew guys at my high school who took 'roids back in the 80s. There was a guy on my college track team who did steroids, usually during the break from Thanksgiving > New Year - always had a great indoor season.
