They did. Both Cam Levins and Ritz corroborated how Salazar treated her and apologized for not having reached out to her or stuck up for her back then.
Who would downvote a purely factual statement like this?
It may not be worth a 20million lawsuit but it's at least worth 1 quarter of that.
It is quite curious how Mary Cain didn't become a successful senior adult runner after being a fantastic teenage one. AIS had a lot to do with that, he burnt her out physically while failing to protect her from anthropogenic RFs and EMFs exposures in America. The training and workouts didn't kill her, it was the lack of a recovery protocol such as sleeping inside
As you can see, it basically claims that AS was fat shaming her, which he probably was.
Appreciate the link.
"basically", yes, the fat-shaming was part of it, among other things. It wasn't just about fat-shaming, but also about sick comments from the 50+ dude to the teenage girl about her "breasts" and sexism:
While Plaintiff was being coached by defendant Salazar, he consistently made comments to plaintiff about her appearance, her weight, and her body. Salazar told her that she was too fat and that her breasts and bottom were too big.
...
Salazar and other Nike employees often made sexist and objectifying comments about female athletes
And ignoring her injuries and illness, for example:
Salazar often pushed Cain to train even though she was suffering from debilitating and painful injury and illness. In 2014, she was suffering a painful injury, a stress response in her left shin. Salazar looked at the MRI showing the stress injury, yet he continued to push Cain through the pain until she couldn’t stand it anymore and was forced to close her training season early due to the unrelenting pain. Salazar coached Cain to do three extra workouts a week to, as he said, “catch up with the older girls” and “lose weight.” Salazar coached Cain to do extra workouts, like walking with wrist weights, do core exercises every day, and cross-training, just so that she would stay lean, he said. In 2015, when she was very ill, diagnosed with Hand Foot Mouth disease, he coached her to continue training and would not let her take a break. Finally, when Cain’s parents discovered that Salazar was requiring her to continue training, and that she was incredibly sick, her parents asked Salazar to let her take a break, which he did. Salazar appeared angry that Cain had allowed her parents to intervene regarding her health.
And ignoring her emotional issues:
On one occasion, the sports psychologist caught Cain attempting self-harm, by cutting herself, enough to draw blood, on her shins, and on another occasion, pricking her fingers. Cain told Salazar, and the sports psychologist, that she was cutting herself. Cain was offering this information reaching out for help. Defendants did nothing. On other occasions, Salazar and the sports psychologist witnessed Cain hit herself violently in the head, as if flogging herself for a bad performance. Still, they did nothing.
and so on. It is simply false that the whole claim was about fat-shaming.
The case was pathetic. You’re a F-ing professional. Deal with it. Someone calls you fat and you don’t like it you can leave. Case closed. Time for people to grow up and stop the BS.
Look you speak flippantly and shamelessly with the archetype of a sex maniac. You don't call your pubescent female athlete fat in front of sexually charged young men. You are sexualizing her by calling her fat because you intend to hint that a slimmer and more shapely girl might both attract sexual interest from the boys, and, get her a couple more PBs and medals. AlS also famously told Kara Goucher or Mary Cain that she needed to reduce her breast cup size or something like that, also in front of the boys. Commenting among the boys about a girl's most intimate sexualized parts of her body on the basis of a fitness and performance assessment or moral encouragement is downright crude, vulgar, profane and PORNOGRAPHIC!!!!
You only find such behaviors (actions and speeches) in a scene from pornography, not from the dinner table of a God-fearing, Catholic/Protestant prudish family of 4!
AIS could very well be the face of porn not the one of American distance running, to be honest right here!

Nobody is saying Salazar is a good guy. But none of the actions listed above are illegal. He can be a terrible person, an overbearing coach, a sexist, controlling a-hole, and also not break any laws. Is it illegal for a coach to push an athlete so hard they get injured? Is it illegal to not take action when there's reasonable suspicion of self harm?
It's perfectly possible that Cain was mistreated by Salazar, and that Salazar did not break any laws.

OK.... I simply proved with direct quotes that the lawsuit wasn't just about fat-shaming, contrary to many demonstrably false claims in this thread.

Yes, but you failed to provide any evidence of illegal activity, which would be required as the basis for a lawsuit. You can't just sue someone because they're mean to you.

That isn't true. This is America baby, you can sue anyone for anything - doesn't mean that you will win. Swing for the fences - you don't win if you don't take your shot. Someone (or Corp) may payoff. I thought this was now the American pastime? Baseball used to be, but lawsuits (the frivolous the better) seem to be at the forefront now.
It's often much less costly and time consuming to just pay a small extortion fee in a lawsuit instead of going through the whole trial
Evidently the claims were neither demonstrably false enough for a summary of judgment nor past the statute of limitations, or there would never have been a "whole trial".
Whether she got $2 million or $18 million is the more interesting question - probably something in between or they wouldn't have come to an agreement.
Definitely in the Millions, because the attorney for Cain will get a large percentage, so she surely walked away with ~5M, which is peanuts to NIKE.
It may not be worth a 20million lawsuit but it's at least worth 1 quarter of that.

Well that wasn't the topic. It's also not correct; of course you can "sue someone because they're mean to you". You might even win, e.g. in case of intentional or even negligent infliction of emotional distress (NIED/IIED).
