Claudia Lane won Footlocker in 2016 and 2017, the years she ran 16:45 and 16:31 on the Woodward Park course. Englehardt recently ran 16:40 on that course at the Clovis Invite, so I think she is currently the favorite at Footlocker.
Englehardt dropped another 16:40pnt at Woodward Park today.
16:40 is a very good time. But do you have any idea how many times Forsyth and Leachman have run a 5k faster than 16:40 this year? A lot.

Lol. Not at Woodward Park.
Last year Sadie Englehardt ran 16:57 at the state meet at Woodward Park. And then two weeks later she ran 17:41 at Foot Locker Nationals, 44 seconds slower than her time at Woodward Park.
So don't get your hopes up that her 16:40 at Woodward Park today is going to translate into a Foot Locker win.
Thus, reasonable to believe Leachman runs sub-16:40 at Woodward . . . maybe even closes in on Claudia Lane's 16:31 CR. . . .
Note: Englehardt smoked the first (slight downhill) mile today at Woodward in 5:03 . . . even Rylee Blade's first mile was 5:15 in a separate race . . . probably cost her a bit at the end.
None of this implies anything about Forsyth & Shea who haven't faced each other or any of the above girls yet this year . . . which makes for a fascinating next two weeks . . .

She was ill last year, so she ran out of gas at the end of the season. She is consistently crushing it this year.
Also, you can’t pin any of this on HS coaches. If any idiot Coach comments on any female’s weight or appearance, there will be a complete sh*tshow meltdown following closely behind.
What if Dad is part of the coaching staff? What is their oldest daughter also had disordered eating? What if the coaching staff at Michigan are not willing to put up with this family again? What if Mom was part of a commission on eating disorders 10 years ago?
This is not a sparty get. This is a disaster in the making on several levels
This article is a giant crock of ……..
I love the fact that the University of Michigan still has never lost out on a single recruit in football, basketball, and now cross country. It's always due to recruits' "test scores" and/or "character issues."
"She totally wanted to go to UofM, you guys, but we didn't want her. Trust me."

Sadie apparently running NXN this year and NOT Footlocker. So, no, she wont win Footlocker. Was looking forward to her and Shea and Forsyth and Leachman going at it. But at least we still get her and Forsyth and Leachman in Portland.

This is 100% true. The only dietary advice I feel comfortable giving my high school athletes is "eat more vegetables." I feel like this is universal advice for all people everywhere and can't get me in trouble, but I will probably be proven wrong.
If you aren’t giving your HS runners advice regarding healthy sleep, hydration, nutrition, strength training and endurance training you aren’t doing your job as a HS coach.

Not sure why this reply got downvoted. Oldest sister was also a HS phenom that couldn’t stay healthy at Mich. The idea that nobody involved saw this coming just does not add up.
an important issue but why did they have to put her out there like that? Talking about her behavioral problems (violence towards family etc.) Some things should be personal. We don't have to share every struggle.

Rachel has been asked that question several times and she said that she wanted to be honest about what happened so that it could potentially help other families who are dealing with the same problem.
And actually that "violence towards family" part of her story is what was the most helpful for me. Not violence specifically, but that point Rachel's family was making that not getting enough nutrition can effect your thoughts, your moods, and your actions in negative ways. I started eating more vegetables and taken more vitamins after I read that. I actually do feel a little better and less stressed now. Thanks Rachel.
I see your point. It's nothing new though, there is a reason the term "hangry" exists. However I do think they can leave out some of these details and maybe just say it altered her mood, etc...

That doesn't seem to be the trend. The academic part does add another layer. But everyone loses out from time to time. Football and basketball don't make excuses that I know of.
Having said that, I am still disappointed that at least in XC/MD track, UM keeps losing folks from right across the street. Dudek, Forsythe, Osika (legacy), Vanderlende transferred... Maybe not a pattern I don't know.

You can count on one hand the number of HS kids (or adults) that would be strong enough to share an ED with the whole country. She is at a school with 2K kids that know her story. No doubt she has made some kids heathier or stronger with her story.
Second behind Saron Berhe in the U20 1500m today! Berhe was the obvious favorite with a sub-4 SB, but I was surprised to see Forsyth finish just one second behind, far ahead of the rest of the field. Between Rachel and Allie Ostrander's recent post-recovery performances, it must be hugely inspirational to younger runners struggling with eating disorders.
That's an amazing result! She's representing Canada, but I thought she was from Michigan? In any case, agree with all you said re: her and Allie O being so important for athletes to see that you can overcome an ED and still run well (or better).
