He's got the world champion bling around his neck and savoring the victory. And now fifth Ave. He's on a high and won't be racing too soon and risk a loss.
My thoughts here. Jakob being the "#1 miler" is not as clear to me. There has not been a race in recent memory where Jakob was not swept away by pacemakers to the win. 22 worlds felt like a fluke, but now that Kerr beat him this year, it feels much less so. How "unbeatable" is he really, when he doesn't have pacemakers or Cheriyot to act like a pacer?
It does feel like Kerr is ducking, but it doesn't really take anything away from his win for me. Sure, it would be awesome if Kerr took Jakob on and beat him again, but he has the right to deny Jakob the chance to race him again. If he lost to Kerr, the media would most certainly take that as Jakob being superior and add an asterisk to Kerr's title.
Kerr ducking makes him look a lot worse than losing the DL final would. Nobody expects him to beat Jakob because everyone knows who the better runner is. Josh already won when it mattered. He has nothing to lose and everything to gain by running the final, so skipping is a weak move.
In terms of Jakob being unbeatable, he’s been untouchable this year when healthy. A guy who can run 3:27.14 with very little drafting does not need pacers to win a championship race from the front. It simply wasn’t his day in Budapest, just like it wasn’t Farah’s day in London, or El Guerrouj’s day in Sydney, or Coe’s day in Moscow. Sometimes the best athlete gets silver.
Kerr isn't ducking him. Jakob isn't owed a rematch until 2025 lol. Show up on the day without excuses or wait your turn. Tired of the excuses for this guy. I'm sure all of the competitors had something from keeping them 100%.
I dont understand why Jakob is not allowed to say how he felt physically and that he was sick. Sure, no one at the startline might feel 100% but being legit ill is different than maybe having slept badly or whatever. Why should he pretend everything was normal?
I also doubt he couldnt run faster because his throat hurt, but because this is a symptom of an infection which will fatigue the body. I think the guy can handle pain and he showed up and pushed himself. But if your body is struggling with an illness you can be tough as nails but the body might just not cooperate.
Really don't get why athletes are not allowed to make an illness or injury public but should just say "oh i guess i was slow for no reason today".

Recall me of the matches between Mohamed Ali, Foreman and Frazier.
Kerr just used the tactic Rope-a-dope to Injebrigsten.

Can all the 5k guys say Jakob got them sick in the prelim? Then demand a rematch?
Athing Mu wasn't feeling great mentally. She deserves a rematch.
I am a huge Noah lyles fan.
In 2021 Noah lyles lost the Olympic 200m cause of his meds so they say.i actually believe him too but he lost. Is anyone acting like he just deserved a rematch that year? No. He waited until next year to light the track on fire. That's how it works

Did I say there should be a rematch? Did Jakob say that? Why are you on about a rematch?
I just said I do not get why an athlete is not allowed to say he was ill when it clearly showed? Has he done this for other races except for the one where he had covid (yes au know covid does not exist and anyone who feels the effects of it is a pansy blabla.)?
He did not say I stubbed my toe, my coffee was cold and my soul wasnt feeling the race today. He explained what was going on with him and gave people and himself an explanation why he looked off.
Puzzling how this seems to trigger the haters on here.

What is your point?
You guys want to minimize Jakob's loss by insinuating Kerr is scared to race him. But now Jakob is 1/4 at 1500m championships that I can count. He's raced him several times and won. Just loss the only one that mattered most recently. What runner who has run competitively really buys some excuse like that? Even if it's true he just didn't have it take the loss.
Maybe it isn't you specifically but there are users here who think Kerr won't race him again lol. Jakob could've run 5th ave...
And the main point is it's September going into an Olympic year now. Time for next year training and downtime

Maybe not but it looks that way. Why skip the final DL meet? He's in top form based on his 5th Avenue mile

Again including the 2019 WC when he was 18 years old and "only" got 4th.
But Jakob wouldn't do that, would he. It's one of those fantasy scenarios. The race will just be the usual Jakob pace-train. We know he wins those, it's boring. If the meet organisers had any balls they'd remove the pacers and put Jakob under real pressure, but it's likely that Jakob would cry and throw his toys out of the pram.
Also, do you know how much Kerr has been offered? The guy deserves to get paid.
You know you've reached a high level of success when posters are coming up with ways to make it harder for an individual to win that doesn't include "other runners running faster".

I am not "you guys" and I do not want to insinuate Kerr is scared to race him. Kerr might just not want to do it, for whatever reason. It is not the best look because of course some people will *think* he is avoiding Jakob/other runners. But I also said I understand he wants a break or end season on a high. And more power to him if he does not feel like he needs to prove something.
What runner who has run competitively will not buy that Jakob was sick and that it affected him? Is an elite runner not allowed to get a virus? I am sure all pro athletes know that an illness can affect your performance negatively, no matter your mindset, especially when you are at the highest level and seconds matter.
It seems like "you guys" (Jakob haters/Kerr fanboys) are being so upset about the fact that not everyone is saying Kerr is King and the best and doing everything perfectly? Everyone acknowledged Kerr won, was the best runner on the day..he has the medal. But he was also lucky to not meet Jakob in his best shape. These two facts can exist together, they are not mutually exclusive.

You're right. Having a race without pacers is a crackpot idea. What was I thinking!
Of course he is. Just like Jake last year. But we all know that they just had a lucky day and most likely they will never ever beat him again unless he is sick or injured.
Maybe not but it looks that way. Why skip the final DL meet? He's in top form based on his 5th Avenue mile
Agreed. It is a terrible decision and look for Kerr. These guys are so preoccupied by fear they fail to grasp the big picture. Not everyone was in Budapest. Fans in Eugene would have loved to congratulate Kerr and take selfies with him, even if he got lapped by Jakob in the Diamond League final.
This is Kerr's moment and there's no guarantee he'll have another one. It's frankly idiotic to stay at home. Jakob doesn't care about a rematch. But Kerr loses by not being there. When somebody like Rich Beem hung on to upset Tiger Woods by 1 shot in the PGA Championship during Tiger's prime, Beem didn't hide and avoid subsequent events. He understood he was big underdog to Tiger every time they teed it up. Beem basked in his moment. He never won another event on the PGA tour.
Exactly, Josh Kerr beat Jakob in the one race that mattered this year, what else is there to prove.
So the 5000 at Worlds didn't matter? Or the 2000 WR? Of the 2 mile WR? Josh Kerr is the 1500 world champ but Jakob Ingebrigtsen is still going to be our #1 miler in the world.
It should be like tennis. The Grand Slams are #1 but the #1 ranking also means something.
Now Jakob has to feel the pain of losing to Josh for many months to come. Poor baby.
