We break down the final regular season DL of the year where Jenny Simpson's 14-year old 3:59.90 US collegiate record fell by the wayside. Plus should Elise Cranny switch to the 1500?
It will be a surprise if Wiley doesn’t go pro after this run and it will be interesting to see where she ends up. We imagine most shoe companies will insist she leaves her current setup in Indiana as fair or not, it leads to constant questions regarding the validity of her exploits. Most believe Wiley is still coached by longtime family friend and former Huntington coach Lauren Johnson. Lauren is still married to Nick Johnson, who has been banned for life by Safe Sport for sexual allegations and has been known to give his runners injections of unknown substances, which past runners have alleged may have been PEDs.
I have seen it confirmed in a DM between coaches that at least as recently as last May Lauren was writing all her workouts and that they’re seen together in town frequently.
why hasn’t she signed a contract? Because as a pro she’ll have more eyes on her and she will be asked who her actual coach is more frequently. This is an awesome charade for her, she can race all over the world and show up for the occasional naia race and tempo and text Nick to come post on any thread that’s talks negative about her whenever she runs a fast time
Not surprising, it’s the worst kept secret ever who the coaches really are.
Contracts and pro status bring the additional scrutiny of out of competition testing. Whereabouts violations here we go!!
Agree. It absolutely stinks 😷. Would love to know Wetmore’s reaction. She just took Simpson’s collegiate record. She gave up arguable the best DI women’s programme in history (at altitude) in Colorado under Wetmore for a known doping couple and a known doping programme in a shirty little NAIA university no one has ever heard of? And STILL refuses to leave? It STINKS!!
It really does and it sucks beccause there are going to be a lot of people (including young girls) who look up to her and who are not as knowledgable about the sport. She is going to influence a lot of them, which is not good.
But what has she done so far to be a bad influence? What is she possibly going to tell these inspired young girls? You're acting like Wiley is the bad person for what the Johnson's did.
I find it hilarious that when posting on this thread the website note says
“We don’t want every Addy Wiley thread turning into a discussion of the Huntington University scandal or PED speculation. This thread is for discussion about Wiley's DL debut in Brussels. If you want to talk about Huntington/PEDs, do so in this Huntington/PEDs thread. Posts not following these rules will be removed.”
the person very likely to be America’s biggest distance story headed into next years Oly Trials won’t confirm who her coach is and multiple trustworthy accounts claim it’s her “former” coach who is still married to an “alleged” abuser/doper. She’s running European meets in incredible times and not even the Huntington coach can confirm she’s running for them/cross. This isn’t “turning every thread into the HU scandal”, this is her entire story. Nothing is normal about any of this and you being afraid of people discussing the major problems here on the biggest running website in the world is so cowardly
Here's an interesting question for prospective coaches. If Josh Neideck or Austin Roark were to quit at Huntington, would you be interested in coaching at Huntington? I wouldn't touch that University with a 100 ft pole as an athlete or coach (or even just a student). So much strange stuff in that town/university. P.S. I actually think Roark and Neideck are pretty good dudes from what I know of them.

but, but, it's a Christian school. How could anything possibly be going on there? 🙄
How is Huntington’s cross country team? If she wants her team to win a national title or podium, then I respect it. Enjoy the team experience one last time but after that go pro. No reason to do the quintriple or whatever it was for indoors in an Olympic year.
Addy Wiley is still a teenager. Up until now she deserves some forbearance about who she associates with and who coaches her. All that is now rapidly changing, both because she’s an adult and because, fairly or not, her clear high level talent and accomplishments this year. Adult pro athletes are responsible for the company they keep, what they put in their bodies, etc. Children are not . Addy is just making this transition. Hopefully going forward she will be making good choices so we all can get behind her and celebrate her talent and root for her. Basically, the clock starts now, imo based on what’s happened to her this summer.
I think you’re closer than most, WOM, but no, she doesn’t owe anybody anything based on how fast she runs.
If changing her environment below her progress, then sure. If she feels confident she’ll continue improving where’s she’s at, she should do that with or without the approval of armchair quarterbacks across America. There are reasons outside of running (but it is holistic) to stay with family and home.
Ok. Feel free to go back to cheering for Faith Kipyegon, Kipchoge, and Kelvin Kiptum. Putting down times that are completely believable from a country with systemic doping. The running media can fawn over them because that is what real and not embarrassing performances look like. End sarcasm.
You guys get all mad that she is playing the same game as the top athletes. You applaud Kipyegon putting 10 seconds in to a pro field in the mile. Love that Kipchoge was world champion as a teenager at the height of the epo era and that he is still setting records at almost 40. Love Kiptum for running 2:01 on his first try without a coach and excited he is now running Chicago. Yet you really believe the villain is someone willing to play the same game.
Addy was a freshman in college in 2022. Nick Johnson was fired from that college in 2020.
What am I missing here? Do some of you not know how calendars work? Or is this a tall-poppy-syndrome type hit job?
So do you know who her coach is?
I believe she said her coaches are Josh Neideck or Austin Roark. May or may not be the case, but haven’t seen any real evidence yet that it’s not true — just speculation and LR board anonymous rumors. Maybe there’s a journalist who can get some answers.

Once Addy is contending for US teams, and certainly if she’s getting paid, then she becomes a full fledged public figure, deservedly so, and she will deserve both accolades that come with the territory and extra scrutiny. Any top pros are rightfully judged based on their professional associations. Look at all the blow back that happened at the BTC because Shelby was hanging around for a while after her adverse finding was confirmed. Suspicions run high about Rupp and Hassan and Farah because of Al. People go nuts every time another of Kipchoge’s training partners is popped, etc. Addy doesn’t owe us anything personally so to speak, but there are appropriate professional expectations and if you choose as an adult and pro to continue to associate with people with suspect pasts, that’s on you. Up until now, Addy was just a kid and everybody should give her a break, but things do change as you grow up and the stakes are higher. At the very least she owes it to herself to move to a squeaky clean team and coach. She can still talk to her parents!!

Women’s team is fine. Got some good transfers this year, but podium would be a long shot. She doesn’t train with the team. In my opinion, this is not a “enjoy the team experience” type thing.
It sounds crazy, but the way this is trending she may very well race at the Olympics next year, then continue running in the NAIA for Huntington. We have no reason to believe she’s leaving HU anytime soon (I would love to be wrong about this)
